Perfect circle achievement does not work

I have two parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. But there is no achievement

I've gotten Perfect Circle, so I know it does work.

I just kept doing it until it finally triggered the achievement? Marry brother to sister every time.

I got it towards the middle-to-late game, when I had unlocked multiple Blood Legacy unlocks (reducing the problems of Inbreeding).

I've seen it mentioned that it doesn't work if someone secretly has a different father due to AI Seduction. (Real father versus actual biological father.) In a larger Kingdom or Empire, this can be a problem, although it was not a problem for me.

This is your answer OP. Try again in Iceland, set diplo range to restricted before you start.

The achievement does indeed not work as the description suggests. It's not enough to only have two great grandparents and you will probably do one more generation of inbreeding.

Now for the actual condition of the achievement:

-> The number of unique ancestors up to the great-great-great-grandparents must be 12 or fewer.

The optimal way to achieve this is with a custom ruler and daughter-wife. That way it's enough to breed for only 3 generations, since the original ruler is great-grandfather as well as great-great-grandfather. Also, use the asexual distribution rule just to be on the safe side.

It does work as the description suggests though. It's that you were unaware that somewhere during the process, you were cucked. The amount of this has been dramatically toned down from where it was at game launch, but it's still a problem, particularly when chasing this specific achievement.

Folks recommending Iceland, restricted diplo range, and asexuality as the default settings suggest these things because it virtually prevents cuckage, and they are correct that if you set up that way, you can probably play the game in fast forward until you nab this achievement making it actually pretty quick. Hadn't though of custom ruler, that's likely even better.
