The funny thing is that if you play as a vassal, you're free to help out your liege in wars. But when I play as an independent ruler, no vassal has ever done anything to help. Kind of rude, honestly.
That's because you raise their troops any time you want. Vassal troops are under your control, just not their full amount.
OP: you need to ally with people outside your kingdom to help you
Seems very non-logical that vassals who are my allies and also my family members would not help me.
How exactly do I use my vassals units ? So far I could only rais my own military in the military tab.
k I keep that in mind
They simply do not deploy their MAAs and personal Levies. They only provide the Levies they are required to provide, according to their vassalage.
Well, the thing is that they already send you a certain percent of their guys as a result of their contract with you, so they don't really owe you anything beyond that. It goes both ways, because you can't take part in their wars either. So an alliance really just means that they won't ever challenge your authority, and as a result, they get certain guarantees, like you can't suddenly revoke their titles on a whim or imprison them.
Even in defensive wars, you can kind of understand why they don't care about helping you. Why should they risk their own guys to help protect vthe lands of some fellow vassal that they probably hate, anyway? There's no benefit to them as long as their domain is safe.
Still, with that said, I still think they should take at least a passing interest in the stability of the realm. If their liege is weakened, he really can't do much to protect them if their domain is next on some independent ruler's shopping list.
Thing is they did challenge my authority by attacking me after I exectued several parts of my family.
