My Heir not in line for succession for the Kingdom of England?

I don't understand why people are voting for a literal nobody Earl of Cambridshire (who has -25 public opinion) for the next King of England? What am I doing wrong?

Also, when I choose to revoke his titles (to give them to my son), my son joins his side in the war (even though he has 100 opinion of me and isn't allied to him). I also don't understand this.

If you go to the electors tab and you hover over each electors weight scale it will tell you why.

The main issues are:
He is a foreigners puppet
If elected he might rule from abroad
Familial concern?

I gave him the kingdoms I had taken in Wales to give him some land to start off with, if that's the main issue, how do I give him new lands in the Kingdom of England? I tried fighting the civil war and I still couldn't give him the duchy I just took from some dude.

Secondly, what does Familial concerns even mean?

Also, how does it even remotely makes sense that some random (who is a vassal of a vassal) is even in the running for this thing?

Saxon elective:

The Ruler and all direct De Jure Vassals of one or two Ranks below the Title can nominate an Heir from the most Powerful Vassals amongst them, the Ruler's Legitimate children, and any other valid Claimant.

Your son is in Wales, he is considered foreign. You should have given him one of your counties in Wessex.

Familial concerns: It's your son. Electors prefer candidates who are distant cousins of the current ruler. They don't want to give it to your son or brother.

So basically they don't like that your capital is not in in their kingdom and he doesn't share their culture. (not sure about the family concern, is he inbred?) If you're not a tyrant, just start swaying the electors and you should be fine. You can read the description of the type of election you have to figure out why he is eligible but it will be because of whatever the rules of the elections.

Thank you for your response. This is my first real campaign, didn't know there would be serious ramifications giving my son land in Wales.

What will it mean for my campaign when this Earl (who is in fact a very distant cousin) will inherit the Kingdom of England? Is there any way I can avoid this? When I die my son will inherit the Kingdom of East Seaxe at the very least, but will I then have to contend with a different AI controlling all the rest of the country?

I... might be a little bit of a tyrant. Can I rectify this or is it permanent?

Your heir might not get the kingdom, but he get all the MaA, your money and a pressed claim...
BaCaz Dec 3, 2020 @ 6:20am
You can tell that in the Succession tab. If you're a king, he will become independent, if you're an Emporer he will become your vassal

You can rectify tyranny but you need perks or dynasty traits and it takes a while. But even if you're a bit of a tyrant it should be possible to push the election towards your candidate.

Edit: In one of my current games I build the Britannian Empire by having Scandinavian elective in all kingdoms and I getting them to vote for my favorite candidate every time till I could create the title.
