Proselytizing foreign pagans?
I haven't had a chance to play around with heresies and spreading religion to much yet.
If I were to start a heresy in 867 Ireland. Could I viably convert the pagans of Europe via proselytizing? I'd like to make a heresy that can convert the Norse and Slavic pagans, who would then hopefully spread the faith as well into the rest.

The idea would be to cultivate another branch of Christianity out of the pagans. Orthodox in the south, Cahtolics in the middle, and this new branch in the north. I don't want to conquer others, I'd like them all to keep their cultures and land holdings, they'd simply all just play under my designed religion.

SO, how does proselytizing work in CK3 in terms of converting your neighbors? Can I do what I have planned or do things not really work like that? So far I've only played as Catholic and have only converted pagan counties and courtiers in my own realm.

Rulers of your own religion just get an event, where they can choose to adopt this heresy (which is a different faith of their current religion)

Example i switched from Insular to Catholic. Ruler died, switched back to Insular. Then half of Scotland and England also switched.

However there seems to be no way to "encourage" members of another religion to try out yours.

I would assume that one DLC might have to do a lot with religion, like enhancing the mechanics and allowing to send missionaries.

You can force someone to convert in exchange for their freedom if you imprison them. Granted, my wars have been betwwen insular and roman catholics, so maybe it doesn't work with different religions, but I'd give it a try.
Dang... So I wouldn't be able to send a missionary out to Norway to try to convert them to my new religion. I was hoping to beat the Catholics and Orthodox in converting the Pagans. Then just see how another big christian body would fare in the world.
