What's the best way to increase your renown?
This particular mechanic is confusing me a bit. I might have just overlooked or skipped the information in the game, but I've had a sprawling empire and barely made +2 renown. I thought I was supposed to marry off my kids and what not. Whenever I marry off my daughters to someone important I make sure to use the mothers dynasty option. What am I doing wrong?

I have the same problem because I still have CKII habits.

I think contributing to ally wars and having dynasty head other titles helps.

Renown - have many, many, dynasty members.
Have rulers who are independent of any rank in your dynasty - not vassals.
Have the women of your dynasty married to independent lords - or their heirs for delayed gratification.
Spread wide dynasty, every dynasty member give a small amount of renow, around 0.02 per month but eventually it will be a nice amount (in one of my games i had +10 from just living dynasty and it was around 500 dynasty members).

If you want renow from marriages, they need to be married with ruler, not just to another dynasty OUTSIDE your kingdom/empire. even better you want to marry your dynasty into other rulers heirs in line where they will accept it in favor for thier childrens being of your dynasty and then you murder every successor before him, so you will end with eventually having your dynasty on thier throne and by that bonus for renow.

Renow source per month are :
living members
Marriages to rulers
Rulers

But in case for marriages and rulers, they cant have thier own dynasty as liege/ top liege

this, its like +1 to have a idepedant king... for instance taking the small kingdoms of brittany and wales then leaving them independant is +2.

Invite claimants. Marry them to your dynasty. Press their claims.

And how precisely am I supposed to ensure that these newly created independent counts remain independent when a blobbing empire comes knocking on their door?

Also, what is the difference between having a kingdom-sized alliance of counts who are members of my dynasty, and a kingdom of counts who are members of my dynasty? Why are the developers wasting my time with this garbage?

All the claimants I get are on their death bed or are already married. Are you saying marry their heirs? Also, How do I grant someone independance? Because in my mind I'd just invade a kingdom or dutchy, and give it to someone and kick em out of my empire. How does that work?

I seen vid on YT by Cynical Brit where he exploits marragies to get alot of prestige and renown :sr4fleurdelis:

Marry up, never ever marry down.

Land children, never give land away to randos, disinherit before giving land.

Go to war conquer as much land as possible, give titles and land to family.

Have as many children as possible, ensure your dynasty members outside of your direct family are having children/married.

Gain hooks on leaders, force your worthless family member marriages onto them.

but you are not getting renown from marriage itself, just prestige and by prestige fame, and some extra gold or prestige if your relligion have right doctrine.

Also best way to gain land, befriend pope and get him to grant your major claims on kingdoms or duchy lands. If you're feeling brave? holy wars, install dynasty members.

Oh ok then I dont know ;p I thought the only way to get renown is by getting prestige and then some % of it counts as renown ?

Ah, see i thought I've been doing that? I have tons and tons of kids. I keep marying them away to people that give them prestige, or to the kids of rulers and it's just not working for me. I've conqured all kinds of land, but that land is essentailly mine right? How do i grant my kids independance?? Because no matter what they will be my vassals when i give them the titles anyway, what does it take for them to be considered independent

I'd be kind of surprised by that, given how he's been dead for just over two years.

check top right corner details, there is gold, prestige, piety and renown
Are you sure you do not mistake renown with fame/prestige level? Prestige is for character, renown is for dynasty.

Thats wrong, totally wrong.
Why disinhereit children if you give them lands? Thats waste of renow because if you give them lands, they will not get any more anyway as they have them already, alteast if you dont have multiple kingdoms.

Marry up/down? depends if you want it just for a while while he live or for longer time periods, I and by marriage you gain:
Count give 0,2 renow per month
duchy 0,4
king 0,8
emperor 1,6

but for rulers outside you gain
2 for emperor
1 for king
0,5 for duke
probably 0,25 for count? I dont have any dynasty counts.

so if you want to keep it for longer, its easier to marry into your dynasty lower rank rulers. Ofc. it would be perfect to have kings/emperors, but from other hand, mostly there are more then 2 duchy in kingdom, 2 kingdom in empire etc...

Anyway rulers of your dynasty do not need to be indepedent to give renow, they just cant have liege of thier own dynasty...

Ofc you want to give even lands inside your border to you dynasty, why? Because ai will take care to marry them and spread even more a bit less renown as just 0,02 per dynasty living member, but still, less clicks for you.
