I'm not entirely sure why, but the same thing happened to me when I did the same with one of my nephews. At the time I was the King of Bavaria and he was the King of Syria when he took over as family head.

Hmm... you hold equivalent titles, then. Do they have more Prestige than you?

Can't be. In one of my current games as King of Bavaria my military is larger than my nephew's (King of Syria) by around three thousand.

the house head and dynasty head mechanics are bugged as hell and there are hundreds of posts complaining about this so you are not alone.

I... don't think this is bugged mate. I also don't see these 'hundreds' of posts complaining about it even when I google for them.

It seems to operate based on military strength.

Check how many troops she inherited.
Dynast is always the most militarily powerful person to my current understanding.

It does not, and if it does then it makes no sense how military strength is calculated, considering how powerful I am and how powerful my allies are.

That just isnt correct there are load of dynasty heads that keep not moving correctly. and house head is inherited primo even when the succession is elective so if you choose a different ruler say goodbye to being house head again whilst so count remains the head of your house. There are literally a post every day about the dynasty head mechanics acting weird, but maybe you are right on it and I am wrong. but what i do know is house head is rubbish if you do anything with elective.

same thing happend for me. i was the emperror of denmark, but my aunt, with a very ounch-able face, for no reason was the head of my house. she was a count with 500-ish soldiers. she even bought the worst dynasty trait with my hard earned points :(

This happens to me every time my ruler dies - the DH title will fart off to some random relative for a month or two but then come back. Of course then they've plundered all the renown I'd been banking for some useless legacy perk :steamsalty:

It might not be a bug, but it's probably not "as intended". If it's based off of military strength, it might not be updating constantly and only catches up every few months or something -shrug-

Can relatives that set up a different house become head of the original dynasty?
Artisan Alex Sep 7, 2020 @ 4:28pm
Yes. Even if all of the original house dies it's still the XX Dynasty and not whatever Cadet branches are left
