Who do I give duchy to?
So Im over the limit for duchies I can have, 2, but my vassals still want me to be the righful liege and own the duchy. The game recommends me to give away a duchy, so who do I give it to for no reduced money and levvies?

whoever you want? Try to give it to the de iure capital owner of that duchy, or they'll wage internal wars for it at some point (click on the duchy shield to learn which county is duchy capital)

you want to give it to someone already on ur council thats unlanded. I personally like try to give them the all the counties inside the duchy as well. Obviously different duchies have different sizes so that isnt always possible.

Some people like weak dukes, I personally like strong dukes.
I'll let others debate the pros and cons of that, thats what i do tho

If I have unlanded councilors ill give titles to them, but if not ill hand them out to any sons I dont have marriage plans for

Unlanded concilors, good idea ill do that.

Keep in mind any vassals inside that duchy will also be transfered to the new duke.

You cannot give it to unlanded, unless you also have a county in there to give away. Duke must have a county.

Are you a king? If not then you're just giving away holdings, destroy the title instead :)

The big lesson here is don't form titles you don't have to!

Yeah, you cannot have vasals of the same rank as you are. So as duke you can't have vasal dukes.

What do you do if you want to give a duchy to someone else. Is revoking title the only option?
Eldrin Sep 6, 2020 @ 12:11pm
I personally only give titles to people in my own dynasty. Someone else would have to accomplish some insane deed for me to reward them with land.
Senlin Sep 6, 2020 @ 12:12pm
You cannot give the title you don't own, so yeah, if you already have a vasal holding it, you need to take it from them, which is an act of tyranny unless you have a legal reason. You could also scheme to kill them and all their heirs, but well, it won't be easy and might be impossible at all.
If you're a duke - never give a duchy title to anybody or even create one.

If you're a king - never give a kingdom title to anybody or even create one.

That's not an absolute rule. If you want to create a new empire you need to hold 3 kingdom titles.

Obviously. But don't do it when you're about to die and haven't formed the empire yet.

3 of your kids will get each title thus splitting.

Depends on your playstyle, if you can put a dynasty member in charge of an independent duchy or kingdom you don't want or need it'll boost your renown growth.

Example, Duchy of Mann only has one county in it with two holding slots. Gives you basically nothing to have a vassal holding it, but if it's an independent Petty Kingdom with your cousin on the throne that's a free +0.5 renown, which is useful even if you're a King because that's 50% more renown basically for free.
