Crusader Kings III

Statistiche:
How Does Saxon Elective work?
I thought that under saxon elective, my kingdom wouldn't be split on succession. My guy is apparently about to die so i've just been looking at heirs and apparently my succesor will inherit my kingdom of wessex but my grandson will have the kingdom of England created and become king of that. I thought it was maybe because my other duchy title was still partition but after changing that to elective as well, he's still going to inherit England.

It's going to be really frustrating if that's the case because i'm pretty much about to lose 80% of my land

You can check why electors are voting for someone in the election details. It has the break up of the reason why Your nominee is not being voted. I feel Elective is bad (especially Saxon Elective) because You need to have Your Heir landed (more points for holding a duchy) and even Claimants can voted (so a really powerful ruler of a different dynasty with claim over Your title can take it with You becoming a vassal).
I have explained it in a Paradox forum https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/succession-laws-explained.1419049/

My candidate is being voted for, my problem is that my candidate is my cousin but my grandson is for some reason going to be king of England despite not even being able to vote for him and not having partition

I've seen that the problem is the game is acting like i have both succession laws. When i hover over the shield next to my character, it says confederate partition, but when i actually click on it it says saxon elective.

How succession works in CK3 is Realm has separate succession law (You can find it under Realm tab and then succession sub tab) and each title has separate succession laws. Usually the Titles follow the same succession law as the realm but You can change it (Saxon Elective, if choose from the decisions, will apply it only to the primary title and not others). Realm laws are applied first and then title law are applied. So, Your Eldest Son may be the actual heir to You Title but since He loses the election of the Title, some one else will take it.

I'm not new to these games, i know now that it's not just me missing something and it's actually the game that's messed up.

If i hover over the kingdom of wessex, it says confederate partition, if i click on it it says elective. This is clearly a bug and not just me not knowing how the game works.

I don't mean to say that You don't know the game. Sorry if I was mean.
But the thing is, the banner will show the "Realm Succession law" and when You click that banner, You open the Title's details and hence it will show the "Title succession law". These laws are different. I think Paradox should instead show the title's succession on hovering over the banner instead of the realm's succession law.

Karma has the right of it - there are TWO types of succession laws - realm succession laws and individual title succession laws. If you can't change the realm law, most likely because you don't have the available tech yet, then you have to set the succession law for EACH title you want X succession law for.
