Looking for spoiler info on this. I read that it's possible.

It is doable. Im on that route.
I figured out a good way. You have to convert to norse as byzantine Emperor, and imprison and sacrifice the orthodox ecomenical pariarch again and again. He gives 250 Piety every time.

The strategy to getting 12k piety is playing as a religion with human sacrifices and then you just execute every prisoner

you also need a decent ruler that gets the entire learning tree

and then just never spend piety and save it
@lubed_assasin Yes but if you fail to imprison them they start a civil war against you. The patriarch doesnt and he gets replaced instantly. You should also get the imprisonmentchance-perk.
Edit: Also if you fail to imprison him you can just roll again and he doesnt run away like other Characters. That seems to be a bug.

To get the cost down you need to do this: start as a tribal with an unreformed religion with the pluralist doctrine, find one with docrines as close to Hellenistic as posible.
Waaqism has the lowest base cost of 5750, Khyarwe Bön has the low base cost of 6650, but have human sacrifice. Ásatrú base cost is 7300, but has far better choice of starting characters.
With a high learning (-33%) Cynical (-25%) Apostate (-75%) Pluralist (-25%) I managed to get the cost down to 29500.
It's really the "dead religion" multiplier of 500% that kills it.
There might be an event after restoring the Roman empire, that awakens Hellenism or allows you to convert to it for free.
But I havn't been able to find it in the game files, so I'm not sure.

It is better to start as byzantine emperor and let your child be educated by a pagan. Then apply my strategy fom above. The vassals will hate you if you do it so you need high dread and saving up money before your pagan child takes over also helps. So you can create and hand out kingdomtitles wich makes your vassals like you more and make them accept it if you ask for conversion to asatru. If the patriarch sometimes has a 0% imprisonment-chance (wich can happen even with the perk) you need to murder him.
This is the most effective strategy because the patriarch never runs away and gets instantly replaced and i already managed to reform hellenism with it.

Probably an exellent strategy.

But I tried starting as Sigurd Ragnarsson, and after amassing enough fame (wich wasn't hard at all) I could start a war for the duchy of Alexandria, that's where the Coptic Pope lives, and he has the same properties as the Othodox Patriach. 26 years into the game and Sigurd is now Hellenist.

let us know if you can bring back the roman culture ^_^, right now i'm taking africa to reform one of the crazy faiths down there, i plan to hold the deserts like its arrakis because of the camel building and the knight synergy.

I figured I can get up to 5% prestiege per knight and +2% piety. I'm not sure the max number of knights I can hit, but I would need to reform away from tribal first. Dont htink i can still hit the piety needed tho

While I appreciate that the faith is in the game, what is the point of making it so nigh impossible to convert to? The only thing it does anyway is flavour, you can get the same effect from just creating your own pagan faith except for the holy sites.

Not entirely can't tell for hellenism but zunism does have the unique sun worhship tenet going for it and as I mentioned they could be more meant for future expansions or still needs to be balanced.
