How to deal with "wrong holding type"?
I have this warning about multiple counties that are "Holdings of the wrong type". But what to do about it? I can't seem to be able to give away just a barony, but if I give away the whole county, that county won't be my vassal, but my liege's vassal.

Click on the city within the county (zoom in), there's a button Grant to lower vassal on the bottom left panel.

Where? There is only "grant to" and that shows only the whole county: https://imgur.com/a/ELyKdML

Just try granting it to a lowborn

I'm playing the same character, have you found a solution? I dont find any information on this...

That's got to be a bug. If you click Grant To on the city, it should be transferring the title of mayor. What's also odd is to my knowledge, there shouldn't be any problems with holding a city holding... I thought it was only church holdings that caused this.

Hamburg is a city capital, you cant hold cities, the only thing you could do, which I wouldnt bother is to build a castle, then switch that to the capital

What is your government type? Are you a tribal trying to hold feudal lands?

Hm, perhaps I'm misremembering that, then.

Got in and discovered what's happened. Your baron is incorrectly assigned to the CASTLE in County Hamburg at the start of the game, not the city. This suggests that they've placed the City of Hamburg as the county capital, rather than the castle at Buxtehude as it should be.

Best file a bug report with this info, should be an easy fix once they get to it.

It happens every game you start.

It'll quickly sort itself out without worry.

Nice new name. It fits you.

Your rank is too low, make yourself at least a duke.

Also, you can try to switch the capital of the county. It is the kind of capital of the county that decides whether you can hold it or not.

Is the castle holder your vassal? Or is there not even a castle in that province? If there's no castle, then you'd need to build one then give the barony away, if the castle holder is your vassal, you can try to revoke the castle title, make it the primary holding, then give the barony away.

Has this ever been fixed? Because I am still having the same issue with the same county. I can't grant a diocese i'm holding to someone without them becoming a vassal like me.
