Is a petty kingdom higher than a duchy?
Or will I loose my duchy when my realm is partitioned because a petty kingdom is just another name for duchy??

For like say Ireland? No, petty king and Duke are the same.

The different ranks have different terms based on culture for flavor. I agree it is kind of confusing until you figure them out.

A Petty King is a Duke that has no higher liege - a Petty Kingdom is basically an independent Duchy. For many game mechanic purposes, it is treated exactly like a Duchy.
