Is there a time limit in campaign?
Hey guys!

So in other strategy games, I have seen a kind of "time limit" built in.
To be more precise, I mean, that if the year in a game reaches a certain value, it is basically "over". (Civilization and Total War series...).

But, lets say, I would get into this game, play the campaign, and my main goal would be that after countless of hours, become the largest empire.

Alright, but, is there a time limit in CK3 as well? Or it can go on "forever", as long as my character's bloodline is going?
Or after a certain time (for example when the year reaches 1600 or something, it is game over)?

Game "ends" in 1453 but you can set game options to "no end date" when creating a new game.
Then the game will continue forever after 1453, just that history and historic events will "stop" at that point.

But you will rarely ever reach that end date anyway. To give you some perspective, i started with Ireland in 1066 and played for 7 1/2 hours so far.
And its 1081 right now. So only 18 ingame years have passed.

Also there is even an earlier start date in 867.
You can play for hundreds of hours and not reach the end date.

That can probably be fixed later with a mod. I am certain someone is going to make a mod to add content after 1456.

As Ogami has said, you must be new to Paradox Games?

Because it has become a running gag, based on Reality, that no one ever finishes an entire campaign of any Grand Strategy Paradox Game, since a full campaign would take at least 30, 40 hours, if not much longer.

Believe me, just try it, even from the 1066 start and see how long you can go without the desperate need to start another campaign ;) .

Yes, this would be my first Paradox Grand Strategy game, only played with Civ and TW series before. But it seemed cool when I watched streams about it yesterday. :)

Welcome :) .

But do try it, try an entire campaign and report back when you either made it trough to the end, or much more likely, when you have given up and decided to play a new ruler ;) .

You're slightly off with the years.
Game ends "officially" in 1453 right before the fall of Constantinople (changed from CK2's 1456), with a game rule for no end date at all.
And the current start dates are 867 and 1066, not 896 and 1063.
So with the Viking Age start date, you're looking at 586 years of history to cover.

Yeah i did not start up the game to look at the precise dates, just from memory.

Alright so I enjoy this game. So, I did the tutorial, then I tried a new ruler, and I was basically got rekt in 5 years or something because the ruler I chose was in the middle of a revolution kind of. Nice. :D

So after that I was like, alright, I should try someone easier so I chose Sweden. I am doing fine at the moment. :)
BUT, let me ask you something. I played Sweden, and after a short while, people wanted to be vassalized around me. I dont get it. Why? Because my kingdom was "stronger"? Or why would they give up their independence in order to be protected by me and be a part of my domain?

See, told you, not even 5 years in and already you started a new game :D .

And well, you answered your own question. Because they want your protection. I also assume that the people who want to be your vassal are also your De Jure Vassals?

If you don't know what that means, De Jure are titles that are rightfully part of a higher title, as in "County A and B are De Jure part of Duchy C".

Alright, I think I get it :D
But I have another question.

Is there a way to have more than 1 army?

I mean, lets say I have 1000 soldiers in total. Normally, I can raise a 1000 soldier army.

That is indeed great, BUT!
What if, I would like to raise two 500 soldiers army? Is this possible?
One army would defend, one would attack (because one time, they captured my capital while I THOUGHT I was winning the war, because I had no soldiers at home!
There has to be a way, it makes no sense that I can only have 1 army :D

Raise them as one army, then you can click on it and in the lower right corner you have a symbol that looks like this I / I . That splits the army in half, each with their own commander and you can order them seperately.
Those new armies can also be split again and so on.

You can do that easier, you can actually make several Rally Points and raise Local Levies individually.

No, and I'm thankful for that.

Not true, I am sure you can by min-maxing and exploiting bugs and mechanics, but it certainly has become much harder, which I am also glad for.
