Console not showing with -debug_mode active

I'm currently running the Mac version and, while I can see all the debug information after adding "-debug_mode" to the launch options in Properties, I cannot actually get the console window to open. ~, `, and pretty much every other series of characters do not work. I'm wondering if I'm just doing something wrong despite years of playing these games, or if there's an error happening. Similar stories?

There was a post on the Paradox forums about this with similar stories, and a mod was suggested to fix the issue, which might be that the console window is active but invisible.

And of course, when I launch it today, it shows with no mods required...

but then the NEXT time I open the game, it is invisible again! I was able to actually *use* the console, but it is just not visible on the screen.

Mine is the same case, actually. I realized after posting last night that my console was just invisible. I'm able to turn the console on/off with "~"/"`" and enjoy the buttons there.
Additionally,—and maybe this a separate, common issue with Debug Mode across operating systems/brands—a fair amount of on-screen text/info particular to the debug interface (or whatever you call it) appear to be 'blued-out' as though the system were struggling or otherwise glitching too hard to display the debugged features.
