Wrong Holding Type but Can't Grant Title?
It's not as simple as CK2, or not as intuitive. I can't figure out how to give my temple and city holdings to new vassals in order to earn tax on them. I'm playing as the Count of Stade in the HRE.

Select the barony. There's a "give title" (I think it's called) option in the bottom left of the UI. You can basically hand the title to any landable character in your court. Or in your realm if you invite them to your court first.

Turns out I can't hand it out because it's a county capital. And since I'm a count, I can't have count vassals, so I have to hold onto the domain. Is there a way to change the county capital status?

Yeah that's kind of poor planning on your end, game mechanics wise. Your only way "out" is to take more counties within the Duchy that you already hold land and then create the duchy using 125 gold (when you have enough counties in the duchy to do this - usually 2), or spend I think twice that to steal the title from someone else if it's already existing.

Wasn't my planning. I spawned in and it was already like this.

Fair enough - Haven't seen that in any of my starts. But you just gotta deal with getting less taxes and levies till you can hand off the titles.

Edit: Wait... this is all wrong. You can DEFINITELY hand off Cities and Temples to someone in your court. It's only castles that should make them a "county level vassal".

No, it's whichever holding is the county capital that determines whether giving it away creates a baron or a count.

You can still create vassals out of your baronies, even if you don't hold the county title (not sure how you'd manage this)

Bubba - Can you tell me what year you started in and where? I can definitely troubleshoot this. Very cruious now.

I start at 867, now is 89 something, I got Reims, beat the father and his mercenaries. Just then i discovered there is no way to give away the county capital without keep the ownership of the county. Can not find a way to change county capital too

I see no Stape - I do see StaDe up next to the Danish border, but that's a county with just a single holding, your castle.

That's what I meant, sorry. Stade. And you start with three county titles. Idk I guess something I did gave me the titles to those city and temple holdings which are the county capitals in Hamburg and Bremen.

Same boat.I have a county that has a barony and a temple. I have both titles but the temple is listed as the county title and the baron title is listed as a baron title. The baron title should be the head of the county ????

So yeah there is a move county cap button ... just look on the holding screen...

I'm having the same problem as the OP. Kaiser of a custom empire of Gelre and I just struck down a rebellion of disgruntled vassals. Revoked the title of the ruler of Orvieto.
Now Orvieto is mine. Has two baronies, the Barony of Orvieto and the Bishopric of Perugia.
When I hover over the Grant Title button for both baronies it says: "You cannot grant this title, it should be leased out to your Court Chaplain."
But i can't. Maybe because my court chaplain is a Prince-Archbishop? If I right click on him the grant title button is greyed out and the tooltip says he is a theocratic prince-archbishop.

Update: I was too impatient. At the start of the new month the problem was gone. I no longer owned two baronies, just the county of Orvieto.
