Too much incest?

There’s never too much incest!

But, on a more serious note, I’ve been watching Paradox’s CKIII livestreams and, now that the embargo has been lifted, Quill18’s, One Proud Bavarian’s and Rimmy’s CKIII videos.
And, to the exception of Quill’s video, each one of them had at least one incest related event happening at some point in the first years of the game.

I know incest is a Crusader Kings meme at this point, but doesn’t that seem like too much of it?

I’m afraid events that should be relatively rare, such as incest, are right now too common, the AI seemingly too gladly going for it when it gets a chance to.
Which, in turn, worries me for what the AI will do when it gets the choice to go for things like creating a new religion or a new dynastic branch: a little bit of it would be fun, but if we see too much of it it’s gonna be completely unbalanced.

Hopefully it was all just a coincidence, and not a sign of the AI always going for the most crazy stuff possible (which, again, can be fun, but it’s better when relatively rare and surprising, and not something we see in each game).

I believe the Capets were known for incest at one point as well. It really was more common than we realize, I think, but too much of it will feel a bit odd in cultures that don't tolerate it.

Seriously, though, I expect cultures (or religions, rather, that's where the sins and crimes are defined) that don't tolerate it will tend to deal with it by themselves... the opinion penalties if revealed or the hooks if kept in secret (plus, probably, the stress of going against your religion's morals) should keep it in check, in theory. (Unless the involved characters have high enough intrigue to keep it secret, I suppose, like our friend Urraca).

To be able to seduce anyone of your own kin, you seem to need to invest into the Intrigue tree, so that's only a small portion of people, let alone those who act on it.

Well yes, but actually no. Uracca wasn't even proven to have been literally Cersei, there was simply suspicions because her brother relied on her a lot and they were very close. They were simply rumours.

If by "incest" you mean cousin marriage, there was a fair bit of that, but then the average marriage back then was between 4th cousins. These days it's between 10th-12th cousins due to urbanisation. So we're still banging our cousins so to speak.

That said, does it bother me that the meme has ascended? Not really. Incest is wincest.

I hope not. I get the impression that a lot of people like this series just because of the goofy things that can happen and I hope Paradox doesn't pander to that audience. In the end this is still a grand strategy series.

I wouldn't say a lot, these are low life redditors and streamers fanboys... they won't even buy the game they'll pay the game pass and play a few months like clowns and put it away forever.
But yea hopefully Paradox didn't make this game with these knobs in mind, memes can be funny but there's a limit to everything.

Pretty much. It's always a shame when people ask questions as to the best place to learn a game they are immediately pointed towards streamers with the highest subs; As though the person asking hasn't typed the game title into youtube and had the exact same streamer slammed in their face.

For anyone who gives a damn - the best way to find a decent (honest) streamer is search by date most recent and that will show everyone instead of relying on default search... Most streamers I watch have less than 5,000 subs. Some only a few hundred.
