How to legitimize a bastard?
I took a fairly large level of devotion hit for this kid being exposed and the game still won't let me legitimize him because he isn't of my house. How do you ensure that a bastard is registered as being of your house and dynasty if he's a bastard... It seemed to default to my lover's house...

House Heads can only legitimate bastards of their house. If it's your son but he belongs to another House, then it's not possible.

So.. the answer to the question ?

How do you ensure your bastard is of your house so you can legitimize him? I had a lover. She had a kid. Hence bastard. But he became of his mother's house. In what circumstance would a bastard come out of your house?? I really don't understand this one.

Hm okay. I thought that bastards are always of your house. That's an interesting question...

Have you confessed to your realm that the kid is your bastard? There should have been an event with different decisions.

Is a secret on you?

Is the bastard on your court?

Is there some kind of hint which condition is missing when you hover over the legitimize button?

Unfortunately all it says is that he must be "of my house"

I got the secret when he was born. I exposed it myself, (but NOT as part of the event, i did it from the intrigue interface) Which I thought was how it was supposed to be done, since it's supposed to be a way of having an heir you could use at a later date if required..

and then lost several levels of devotion (we will debate how fair it is going from paragon of virtue to a sinner at a later date)

Im not sure if he was at my court. i think so, because his mother was my lover. pretty sure they were at my court. but I cant remember.

It’s because the mother is noble. I had the same issue in a previous run. Mother was my soulmate as well and all of our kids ended up in her house. Things got messy with her husband.

Don't you hate when that happens? 🤣

And thanks, it's good to finally have an answer to that.

I don't even have the option to "legitimize a bastard". I am teh head of the house hold and the child is from my Concubine. So you think I should be able to legitimize a bastard. But that option is not even avaliable. Anybody have any thoughts?
Mr.Android Feb 4, 2021 @ 11:47am
Is it marked with the bastard trait? My children from concubines don't get the bastard trait and don't need to be legitimized.

The mother is founding her own house and becoming a bastard founder which must be a bug because she is not a bastard and this is dumb.
Drosta Aug 27, 2021 @ 9:03am
yeah, bit sad to see this is still happening. among other things, i gave them good bug reports that they never took action on. sad.
