Is it normal that my empires collapse?
So I have been playing various empires, and I noticed something. After 100-150 years the empire starts to collapse, usually happens when the ruler dies and his heir has to deal with factions.

It happened to me as Francia, Hispania, Russia, Rajastan and Brittania. At some point I was unlucky and got a big faction that made me weak and exposed me to foreign ambitions.

Is it normal? Am I missing smth?

Well, not "normal" but its a high probability. Just like in real history big empires tend to collapse after a century or two, its very rare that really big empires like the Roman one survive for centuries.
But its definitely possible.

Yeah, you're missing something. It's been fairly simple to keep my empires together.

You need to use diplomacy and dread. For dread you need to keep prisoners around. Preferably of different religions. execute them, torture them. Get your dread as high as you can. But you don't always have to go this route and sometimes its not even practical if you have a compassionate ruler.

When you see a faction forming against you look at the factions that have the highest military power forming against you and see why they don't like you. Sometimes they want a specific duchy. Sometimes you're going to war too frequently. They may be a different religion or culture. These things are all correctable.

Have your council member set to increase opinion of you. Have your wife assist your diplomacy skill. Bribe them. Hold feasts. Sway them. Murder people that don't like you and put somebody else in their place. Take away titles if you won't incur Tyranny. Ally with your kingdom level vassals through marriages. Choose to have heirs with traits that give bonuses to vassal opinion.

There is a lot you can do in the game to make people like you. I've reached the point where I have so much military power though that even if anyone rebels it wouldn't be problem to crush them.

I do these things, but once a new ruler comes after his parent died I get no time to do so

Sometimes I have enough money and power to stop them, this time they prevailed. I always make sure that everyone like me and this way I get no factions

You have to save gold and prisoners for when your new ruler takers over. I've been able to always get the factions to disband right away when a new ruler takers over. The best one you can do though is ally with the largest faction who wants to rebel. It will remove them from the problem.

I had 10k gold and tons of prisoners, but a big faction just declared one year after I got to power, my merceneries stopped them but then HRE joined against me to take Aragon. I could win against one side only

The bigger you grow the harder it'll be to keep an empire together because rebel compare they're faction strength to your strength, which is capped by your domain limit and barely increase as you grow in size while vassal will keep increasing.

That being said, it should be pretty easy to beat pack rebellion, they all form their army in their own land and then try to combine them, so you can easily kill them individually.

If u know what u are doing it is not that hard to keep ur empire intact ,but it takes some knowledge of game mechanics.

The way I use to avoid that is to raise the crown authority to stop them from growing too much. They have one duchy and that's it. Still, some transitions are bad, but they usualy only ask me to lower that authority. Not that bad if I lose and if I win, a bunch of them is in jail which is always nice ! :)

After a succession change, immediately pause the game. I usually stay paused for around 5-10 minutes to take in the new political situation around me and take the first quick countermeasures. Bribes (the gift option) are pretty much instant.
You can also immediately change your council positions around, consider giving council positions to unhappy powerful vassals, even if their skill isn't great (except diplomacy, you probably want a good diplomat there).
You can also start forming alliances almost instantly by arranging marriages. Vassals who are allied to you can't join factions against you, afaik. Plus, look at your lifestyle perk tree - your new ruler might have other potentially helpful options. Dangerous factions can't overthrow you right away, they need time to form and be able to send an ultimatum. Focus on the strongest faction members first.
And making sure your new heir has good traits instead of bad ones is something you can do far in advance :)

Some times its best to just grant troubled areas their independence. And dont worry, your vassals will reconquer it for you eventually.

Peasant rebellions are easy to deal with by force, as they are divided and weak, no matter what their numbers are. You can keep them in check by spreading enough culture to keep them below threshold.

To make everyone more happy simply "demand conversion" on all your vassals whom are willing to. Including your prisoners and those whom are rebellious and refuse simply keep them locked up.

Crown authority is also easy to deal with. At times you can manage it by simply having a high diplomancy spouse, but if push comes to shove then simply accept their demands and your crown authority drops 1 level and costs little bit of prestige. In return they can't join factions for 5 years and gives you time to get rid of short reign penalties.

Claimants to your throne are your biggest threat, as their supporters are harder to get rid of, by diplomatic means. Sometimes simply befriending the guy is enough, but if war breaks out simply check where the guy is from and attack his army and takeover the land to capture the him and end the war.
