I play with mouse and keyboard.
Tbh, it seemed like more of a placement issue. I tried to place the pond in a line with the others I already had and the first two times I tried, the roped-off area wasn't where I had placed it before clicking (almost against the fence south-east), but it had glitched two slots down and to the left.
The third time I reloaded that day and tried again, I was standing in a spot directly against the fence and tried to place the pond to the left of me. Waiting for the green light and clicking, then the pond just disappeared.
For now, I just reloaded the day and plopped the pond into a box.
This is my fifth save file. Never had an issue with a pond from Sunny before.
I took the pond out of the box, placed it on the ground, left mouse click, it glitched again to a spot a bit further down. I thought, well, stay there then, I can always move it later once it's built.
And then I couldn't leave the roped-off area.
Dare I say there is definitely something fishy with Sunny's fish pond?
