Is it just me or are several of the NPCs total jerks?

Top of the total jerk list has got to be WALTER!! WTH is with this guy? I've never seen that amount of passive aggressive bs in a game before!! I have no problem with people being oddballs, occasional jerks because they're grumpy, weirdos or the like but just about every single cutscene with Walter makes me want to throw him off the lighthouse!

If I was his son Luck I would seriously consider never speaking to him again!
At this point I'm REALLY hoping that he has a big character arch because I don't like hating game characters!

There are a few other NPCs that seem like total snobs to us the farmer as well. It's odd because the first time I played late last year I immediately liked Mark but when I restarted this past month he had turned into a jerk to the player. What is that about? Did I just not see those interactions the first time or did they really change him for the worse?

I mean, not everyone is going to be kind and sweet and not every bad/rude person is going to become friendly and considerate after a character arc. And they shouldn't if that is how they are supposed to be. That's not how life works (yes, this is obviously a game, but still). As unfortunate as it may be, this just reflects normal life.

But also, I didn't think Walter was/is a jerk, he just seems like a normal well off guy who doesn't think much about anything outside of his bubble, same with how his wife basically sees the farmer is like, "Oh, yeah, you're not competition"... they seem like normal rich people, to me, not exactly mean, but they aren't concerned with being nice or your feelings, lol. Now Mark... Mark I remember always being a bit of a jerk, but I'd just brush it off as being someone who just isn't really... a people person and not socializing outside of his little group, so I keep my interactions with him to a minimum. There's another character like that, too, who I can't remember his name, but he was rude to the farmer right off the bat, too. Even after I brought back the picture of him and his wife.
