Merit points elixirs?

they level you up once or just extra xp. ive only bought one and i leveled up.

No. They do not level you up or give you XP. You use them to purchase the skill reward you can't purchase through leveling up.

That's interesting. I just purchased one, ate it and was told my skill went up I believe 1 point.

The point it is talking about is the skill point that you can allot to one of the 6 perks! It's not talking about actual experience points. Those you get from doing the activities in each skill.

You don't get a skill point EVERY time you level up each skill. In all you get 5 skill points in each mastery by actually leveling up. The last skill point you have to buy at in elixir form.

There is a total of 6 perks per skill they go up every 2 levels so in total you can unlock 5 of the 6 perks per skill once you have reached level 10 leaning one perk left if you really want all 6 perks for a skill then you can buy the exliar thing for 500 to give you the extra perk so then you unlock 6 out of 6 perks per skill, like one of the perks is traps last longer I’ve never used a trap during combat so that’s one I avoid out of the 6 perks but if you want all 6 that’s how you get it once you reach level 10

It works like @Padgey explained, but I need to mention one thing:
There is a heavy bug with them! They are supposed to give a point, but there's a ~ 40% chance they just don't (which results in 500 points waisted).
So buy them 1st thing in the morning, check if the skill point's granted and if not, reset and do it again. Waisted 1500 points till I reloaded my cloud save >.<
