Fruit trees dying

I really hate that my fruit trees die instead of just going dormant.

They dont, Fruit plant (seedlings) die at the end of their life cycle, fruit TREES (saplings, unlocked at town rank c) never die

If it's a 2x2 then it's treated as a plant. If it's a 1x1 that needs the 8 tiles around it clear then it's a tree.

Aye it's a bit misleading from expectations on the first play, but as the others commented there's a difference between fruit plants and actual trees. Based on the price and perhaps previous games you'd likely assume them to be trees, while in fact they are just special crops that die out of season like any other.

The actual trees do also exist, but those are obtained at town rank C.
