Almost every level have at least one group of ores. You either have very bad luck or didn't look at all the floor. I'm sorry if it was bad luck.
Normally when I want ore from one of the completed mines I did I just go to the floors 5, 15 and 25 and look for ore on them. I always leave with at least 10+ ores
Unfortunately, this also means the days of 1/5/15/25s for a lot of ore fast are pretty much over. You used to be able to do a run and get 40-60 ores in a couple minutes. Now you might get 10, if you're lucky.
Even now I still easily find ores on the first levels. And I mean in ALL first levels of all mines. Many days. Am I being luck?
Probably - that's no longer the norm. People in discord have been keeping track of their pulls. Here's mine - no perks or enchantments yet, it was the first time through the mines -
Floor 1 - no ore, but a vein in the floor
Floor 2 - no ore
Floor 3 - 4 ores
Floor 4 - 1 ore
Floor 5 - no ore
Floor 6 - 2 ores
Floor 7 - no ores
Floor 8 - no ores
Floor 9 - no ores
Floor 11 - 2 ores
Floor 12 - 1 ore, 1 geode rock thingie
Floor 13 - no ores
Floor 14 - 2 ores
Floor 15 - 2 ores and a mushroom
Floor 16 - no ores
Floor 17 - no ores
Floor 18 - 2 ores
Floor 19 - 2 ores
Also, killing every single monster on those 20 floors got me -
2 goo
1 cocoon
1 monster essence
3 stone
I also got
5 earth geodes
2 mystery geodes
These are not pre 1.0 numbers for the early floors, but it's the new normal. It's part of their new 'dynamic' system.
Are you making the starter food? You need any of the seeds that drop from trees (Maple, Oak, Pine) and some sap and you can make that lolly-pop which gives 60 stamina and 20 health back (I think those numbers are right)
Also you can get the Bug Jerky recipe from one of the towns folk (I can't remember who). Any bug will do, but you need to invest in the Grill from the appliance store. That gives 80 Stamina and 20 health also I believe.
The first option is more cost effective, since you can craft it without any appliance and can farm them easily. The seeds will drop if you shake the tree, you don't have to cut them down and you can do this to any you have access too around the town.
Have the devs said why they've done this to the mines?
Basically, the more you work, the better everything gets.
Deeper in the mines - more ores
Cleaner ocean - better fish
That kind of stuff. At the start of the game, the town is a mess. The more you clean it, the better the rewards are supposed to be.
On a slightly more serious note; there are more levels without ore now than pre-release for me for sure.
Dang... didn't know that. First time being luck too because I always have bad luck in games
