Help: How to fish for noobs!
Noob alert, I cannot get the hang of fishing. Any advice?

It seems that you need to wait for the fish to stop thrashing to reel it in, but as soon as you start to reel in it thrashes and resets the progress and after about 3 attempts the line just snaps. Maybe I am trying at locations to high level? Is there a nice easy place to start?

I think it helps if you rapid click instead of just clicking and holding? You can hold when the wavy lines are small, but you have to let go when they get big (to indicate the fish is trying to get away). It's similar to the fishing technique in other games, like My Time at Portia. Try rapid clicking and see if it helps.

The pond along the side of the farm seems to be a good place to practice? Though sometimes you just get trash.

Hello friend ;)

There is absolutely no need to click rapidly. You can just hold/release as you progress. Keep in mind that the line also breaks when they get too far away. It could be that you're trying to catch a fish that is too difficult with your current level fishing pole tho.

I don't know which water is easiest to start, but the bridge on your way from the farm to the centre is a good place to fish.

Edit to add: I may very well be clicking rapidly in some occasions too so YMMV and also it varies a lot for which fish you're trying to catch. There is definitely a thing like 'difficult to catch fish' at the very least.

Start the fishing with a spam of clicks just to prevent low rod breaking vs high fish

After you have a decent rod, or you know its a weak fish then you hold down reel when its not struggling, and when it struggles you tap reel to prevent as much loss in progress

you can catch the hardest fish unbuffed with the basic rod doing this

How much time does it take you to do this?

The most frustrating bit with a low level rod for me is that the line breaks at the end because I ran out of patience.

I find it's no longer too frustrating to catch the very hard fish with at least silver rod and the 2nd tier fishing mastery upgrade that decreases fish struggle by 10%

The hardest fish with level 1 fishing and a basic rod will take a bit of time

Most fish you can get in 1-3 fights with them
