ranching in winter

I've read both
let animals out in winter if it's not raining/snowing
don't let them out at all in winter
Can anyone clarify whether you should let them out in winter if it's not raining/snowing?

You are fine to let them out as long as it is not snowing.

If you have any doubts, check the ranch north of your farm. If Kenny let the animals out, you can let yours out.

for a long time i did the same, but for a while now, when i let them out during winter - even if sunny weather, they give me the sour smiley face.

Ignore the face, it's the same one the pet gives. If you look at the board in the barn, they animals are still perfectly happy. Just plant a small amount of grass for them to eat every couple of days.
