I think they changed it to use stone because when you're in the mines and need to make rope you have access to lots of stone.

Understandable, but still doesn't make sense. Add weeds to the mines for fibre as mentioned and it's solved. Seems to me they took a little too much from Stardew there when they didn't need to

to be honest i was always much more accepting about fantasy and sci-fi elements than i am about BRONZE ORE :))))). you should have heard my rant when i first got to mining :))).
but, again. to be honest, it doesn't bother me personally. it's a game. if i wanted to be bothered, there are other things that are more deserving of it.

I think it's really good that they focus on balancing the game around what makes mechanical sense rather than what makes logical sense. a.k.a prioritizing fun over realism.

You mine a lot of stone, rope is exclusively for the mines, make rope cost stone, simple, straightforward and balanced toward where it's used in the game rather than what makes sense in real life.

If they wanted it to make more sense they could make it a climbable rock ladder instead.

Omg, I remember that. I'd been ranting (to myself) about the bronze ore, so seeing another kindred spirit warmed the cockles of my heart. Too funny.
