Yes, I collect so many Wild Seeds just to prepare for winter season. It's worked.

Complete the other 5. If you've done 5 shrines, all (35? I think) ocean beacons, and donated 100+ things to the museum, you should hit C rank. Make sure you do it before mid fall, or you won't actually have time to grow the watermelon.
One trick is to upgrade your hoe and just go to town on the beach and the paths. You will get tons of coffers and books you can donate. And a ton of wild seeds, although if you plant those in winter all you'll get are tea.
Why would you stop? There's still plenty to do in winter.
