Bug: Grass starter

The grass starters do not grow. Is anyone else having this issue?

No, I always put it directly on the ground, no tools used. It has never spread.

Clarity on if the grass will self propagate- spread- would be nice. If not will this eventually be in an update? Or not planned at all?

Grass growing back after winter would be nice too. The grass that's there in the beginning of the game, I mean. Farm looks so barren otherwise :(
