I've only found kale in the wild, but nothing else. I read somewhere you can't grow crops in the winter and if we can't get the greenhouse without finishing the altar idk how we can grow them to gift them?? Basically you can't grow anything in the winter.

Same here. Soma (dev) said in another post, that you should be able to grow the crops during winter but I also didn't see any seeds selling in the shops and only found kale as well. Waiting for an update before i continue since i really don't wanna pummel thru a whole year when winter is the only season i need to finish.

From who and from where? The only places I know I can buy seeds are from Sam and the Monkey in the shack; where are you getting winter seeds? have you already played through a year is that it?

Maybe it depends on your town level? I got the seeds for watermelon, garlic and fairy rose in fall after reaching lvl. C (at Sam's)....and the information on the seeds is for them to be planted in fall and i guess you can find the last two from the altar in the wild (in winter)? At least thats what it was like in the other altars :D

How did you guys get rank C? I completed the museum quest and got it upgraded. I think I am rank D? I don't have the seeds for sell either :( Middle of winter year one

good question...i don't know what's the condition for getting a higher rank... i can't seem to find an information on how many items i donated to the museum either. i can only say: i completed the main quest with the local produce and the ocean (i guess that's the limit from EA) and i guess im at round about 70-80 donated items... but idk could be more or less. I'm currently in the first year in the middle of fall and got the mail that the rank got upgraded to C at around the first week of fall

sry can't rly help much more ^^"

I completed every quest too (so the one we can finish) and spending to the museum helps. I tried it. I spend around 10 fish, insects etc and the board in the city hall showed that the rank will get higher soon. Sorry for the bad english :)

This is incredibly frustrating. I grinded (ground?) through my second year, waiting eagerly for winter, expecting to have access to the winter seeds at Sam's. Now I see that apparently the winter seed availability is tied to the town's grade?!? So I will have to grind through another stupid year, trying to raise my town's rating? And frankly, I'm not sure if even then I'll be able to raise the rating since I understand it is somehow tied to how sociable you are and that is my least favorite part of these games. (Good thing my real life community's rating isn't tied to how sociable I am in real life.)

As far as progress, I have done everything undersea that I think is currently available. I've donated 89 items to the museum.

This just makes me want to give up on the game entirely. I wish the devs would rethink this. If progress in the game is going to be so intrinsically tied to the town's rating, then you should be able to somehow see what you need to do to raise that rating and what your progress is so far.

As it is, I'm quitting out of the game (I was playing this morning, so happy that I was going to reach my second winter!) and, frankly, unless I see that this has been changed I don't know that I'll be picking it up again. So disappointed. (I know this post probably sounds angry and yes, I am a little sore about this.)

But didn't everyone know it was tied to town grade? Also, how do you still not have grade C if you're in your second year? It shouldn't take you that long. As for the social aspect, I was barely social with the people in town, maybe had one heart with 4 or 5 people, which isn't hard if you gift people twice a week and talk to them when you see them while doing stuff around the island; I wasn't even going out of my way to do it.
I'm not trying to be rude, but having to be social in a game, in which the genre always has this aspect in the game, seems a little silly. Why would they ever change that when it's so simple to do?

Frankly, you do sound a little rude. I've enlarged my house, bought furniture and cooking equipment, have a barn with three cows, have a hen house with four hens, have more crops than I can fit in my shipping crate almost every day, have multiple kegs, mason jars, etc., have thoroughly explored the first two mine shafts, have cleared every bit of ocean I can reach, have donated almost 100 items to the museum and seen it enlarge, I'm sorry you don't feel that's good enough. I feel that this should be sufficient progress to allow me to get the winter seeds.

I wouldn't mind it if not being super-social meant never getting an A rating for my town. I frankly don't care that much. I like running around, foraging, mining, farming, going diving...happy if the town's rating gets better but it's just not that important to me. But tying the town's rating to the only way you can obtain items necessary to progress the game (especially so early in the gameplay) is, I think, harsh. I should be able to earn my greenhouse and progress. As it is, I see no point in continuing to play, actually. It's just a grind and somewhat boring.

I did the same thing i got frustrated, after donating ton of fish and artifacts and clearing the ocean but my breakthrough to town rating C was donating books to the library, you can grab the Hoe and head to the beach and start Hoeing until you get some books and donate them in the town center, I Hope this helps.

This was pretty clear, considering you get mail each time you raise your rating letting you know there are new seeds available.

If you are in year 2, you should have EASILY reached C rank by now, just doing the normal quests and day to day stuff. Get to the bottom of both mines, clear 40 underwater beacons, finish 5/6 of the offerings, donate 100+ items, donate a couple of books, say hello to everyone as you run by them and you're there in year 1.

Even if you don't enjoy socializing, even if you just said hello to everyone you see as you are running around, you'd have a couple of hearts with everyone by year 2, even without gifting anyone anything.

You can see your progress in the town hall. They showed you where the board was in a cut scene.
