I assumed it had to be a cultural spirit. They remind me of the island spirits in Sims.
Oh, incorporating a cultural mythos into the game is really cool! I was already blown away by the variety of backgrounds from the characters and the overall design of the architecture, so including elements of existing cultures beyond just visible design is great.
Assuming that part about the Tuyul being employed by humans to steal is true, I wonder if it's because of that Pufferfish lady? That could add complexity to the current dichotomy between the island and Pufferfish.
