Fishing for Arapaima

I have not unlocked the savannah yet, so unly have the forrest river right now, since its spring. Is there some place along the river that is better than others to catch this bad boy?

According to the wiki[coralisland.fandom.com], the only place it's available in the spring is the Deep Forest (and the Savannah).

Warp to the cavern teleporter and run a bit to the right with the little lake and fish there. That is where I catch it. You want a fish that moves back and forth in a straight pattern.

Do I need to upgrade my rod?

It would certainly help.

Upgrading your rod lets you cast further, which in turn increases the chance of a fish (as compared to trash), as well as increasing the chance that the fish you catch will be large and rare, both of which apply to the arapaima.

On the wiki page it says any time of day but in the quest a night fish. When Is the best time?

I can't confirm or refute what the wiki says. It could be that it's available all day long, but it's more likely in the night because there are fewer other fish available at that time.

I do know that the weather matters: it won't appear in the forest river on sunny or windy days.

(My own save game is also in the fall, so I wanted to check my in-game computer's fish forecast, but due to the weather, there's no arapaima at all.)

An ingame computer fish forecast? How do I get one of those?

It's one of the things you can develop at the laboratory, once you reach town rank D and have access to osmium ore (among other things).

It is all day. I usually just save scum the morning to make sure I catch one since it needs rain/storm and those are unpredictable. Load up, warp there and fish as long as you are comfortable for. If you get it, great. If not, load up and repeat until you get it. This last time I got it as the first fish of the day.
