Pet race now impossible to beat?

I got my pet as soon as I could in the game, petted it every single day, but still I can't win the 3rd round and am lucky to get 2nd place in the 2nd round. Even with getting the pet earlier there just isn't enough time to build enough friendship with it to sprint for more than a second before it gets out of range. All the other competitors especially at round 3 seem to have perfect super speed to get a good distance between themselves and their pets, leaving you straddling behind knowing you'll never catch up to them even if you don't lose sight of your pet. This seems very unfairly stacked against the player and impossible to beat.

I saw some people posted pictures of how they won the race by blocking the track with traps, but this looks to be hotfixed so not only can you no longer stack them next to each other but they vanish during the day of the race and you can't even plant them on the day of the race either, so this is no longer an option to "winning" the race.

hm... I haven't really targeted to win during the first year but definitely easier on the 2nd year :) once you get max hearts your pet would pretty much zoom towards you continuously. Not saying its impossible but maybe really really tricky for the first year :D

I don't think it's impossible, but it would be pretty hard to win your first year. You just won't be able to have many hearts with the pet yet. Winning in year two is pretty easy.

Yeah no clue why we can't give out pets treats to boost friendship gain. Can literally only boost friendship by pat once per day. Get on it devs this is frankly unacceptable.
