Upgrading Tools useless?

Heya,
I want to know if you all upgrade ALL the tools or just the ones you really need...?
I Thought about leaving the watering can and the hoe at slver and just upgrade the ones I really need like the fishing rod, the bug net, the pickaxe, the sickle and the axe.
What do you do?
It seems like a waste of money, time and materials to me... o.o

Hiya,
The tools that are mandatory, are the following:
Fishing rod. - Osmium. Cause there is no alternative to catching all fish.
The rest -can- be left at gold, it just takes more time to get stuff done. Do you mind hitting stuff twice (4 for osmium ore nodes) or just twice? once? does it matter?

The only tool you CAN TOSS OUT AND LEAVE ALONE. After reaching a certain level, is the bug net. You do not even need to uppgrade it at all.
You just need to reach catching 3 which is achiveable by the last of spring, year one. Just catch everything you see even if you already have it.. To be able to start crafting ground insects traps.
(Remember, picking up and collecting any bugs these traps catch, nets you experience.)


Im at fall, year 2, (I have 1 winter butterly left, as well as one fall caterpillar that i missed cause i jumped a few days and just couldnt be bothered to reload a backup save to get. Or else i would have been done.)

90% of this, is caught with traps. Over in game of one year. Using nothing, but 10x ground insect, and ten of each of the three additional traps. Nothing else is needed.

You NEED the osmium ax as well to progress storyline.

It's nice to upgrade everything to osmium for the enchantment slots, too.

But I usually only upgrade the watering can and hoe to osmium late game, just so all my tools match and are pretty.

Upgrade the scythe to osmium when you do the ocean clean up. Max out the enchantments slots with extra drop, hit drop and rare drop. I get about 300+ treasure boxes in 1 day. Do the same enchantments for the pickaxe when you enter the mines.

fishing net, axe, pickaxe, scyth and hoe are the ones to upgrade to osmium. The higer the quality the tool you can get more enchanting slots, which get you more bonuses per tool that are really useful and the range/ hit times are also less / bigger. Also it can get you sometimes faster through a quest.

I will upgrade only those I REALLY NEED right now to osmium bc I don't want to waste money XD
So maybe later everything else when I have time, money and materials :D

Never upgraded my watering can until the end-game. Nor the bugnet. Because of lack of hardwood at the start of the game I always go this way:

First pickaxe to silver for mining. Better mining = better ores for better upgrades.
Second when you get the hardwood gate, You can upgrade your axe to silver to get the log on the waterfall (for some reason it can be cut with silver instead of gold? Did they fixed that?) or bomb away some of the logs on your farm. Its much better to upgrade the AXE FIRST AND BEFORE THE PICKAXE so you can be able to cut away logs for more hardwood so the game is open up.

The logs off the farm could always be cut with a silver ax, it's just the ones on the farm that need gold. And if you blow up the logs with explosives, you'll get enough hardwood to upgrade three tools to gold, before you ever unlock the mid forest. I always to pick first, since that's what you need to get ores for more upgrades, then the scythe to get through the ocean quicker for more kelp, and then later I do the ax. Upgrade those three with the hardwood from the farm and you're good to go for a long time.

Do you need to place the traps all over the map or can I stick them in the woods to the left of my farm?

I do the following.
I divide all insects into two categories.
Ground and flying based on traps.
I will have ground insect traps before second week of spring.
*que image of me running around with a net like a madman catching every bug in sight*
Until. I get to catching 3.
At this point.
I stop looking at ground insects. I only look at flying for the remaining of spring.

At this point. I open the wiki for every single ground insect that exists in spring that i do not have.

I check which insects spawn where. I usually have 2 weeks left so 14 days.
Usually i can dedicate 1 day/night cycle to one insect.
Leave the traps in their spawn area.

Go about my day. Check first thing in the morning.
99% of the cases. I have caught what i needed.
Repeat until all ground insects are done.
B4 spring is over. I usually have ground sea critter traps unlocked but i dont make a move on those yet cause well. I havent unlocked all of the ocean floor areas. I make a few and leave them in tglhe nighttime lobster areas at least when i get to them. The rest. I catch spring year 2 when the floor is all opened up.

As for flying.
I get the trap. Usually late summer year 1. Early fall at worst.
Also i dont even look at the legendary butterflies until i get the traps. Just. Dont.

Then just open the wiki for all insects per season you are in. Place traps in their spawn areas. Wait a day. Go check in the morning. Rince. Repeat.
