Personally, i grow strawberries in 2x7 rows in my greenhouse. (Unless you are filling the whole greenhouse with strawberries)
As for buying seeds. I don't remember what you have to do in the game to unlock it, but all you have to do is buy a computer in the Laboratory, place it on your farm, and over time you can buy any type of seed from any season there.
BTW If you have autumn in the game, I recommend planting a cactus in the greenhouse (if you have them unlocked). After collecting the cactus, process it in the hive into cactus honey, and process the cactus honey in the aging barrel into cactus mead. It is time-consuming but profitable.
But also since the trigger condition is planting them in a 3x3 grid. Avoiding that, and there is no problem.
