If you are using Auto- anything in the farm, it'll make things easier but you are effing yourself in the a** when it comes to mastery points.
In my first rum I used the auto-watering thing because I hated the stamina loss from watering my crops, later I noticed my farming level was at least 2-3 lower than anything else because I was not actively watering my stuff.
I'd recommend not getting the auto petter, harvester, or feeder until you reach level 10 ranching because otherwise it will significantly decrease your XP results. I learned that the hard way the first time I played and constantly wondered over the course of a season why it wasn't going up. Got rid of the automatic machines, and it started going up again.
Oversimplified: If you don't spend Stamina for it, you ain't getting EXP for it.
You need to use the Automatic Machinery slightly more strategically than you would think for a game like this. For example sprinklers are great at keeping your crops wet when you don't want to waste time/stamina watering them but they also rob your farming mastery points everyday. Use them when you have other things to do but if you lean on them too much it'll hurt you on the long run
They do work exactly as they should, there's nothing to fix.
