Pet race (other) bug?

Since I now have a little mystical pet running around my farm I was finally able to participate in the pet race. Nice!

Except... well, my Misty never showed up. Which, fine, I was able to run the course without her somehow, and ended up first through the goal. And then there was a wait for all the other contestants to reach the goal too. But it didn't stop there.
The timer kept going and going until I guess time ran out, the race was over, and my character placed last despite hitting the goal first.
What? Why? If it was because the pet never showed, well, why didn't she? And why could I race without her in the first place?

I've looked around a bit to see if the pet race is bugged, and read quite a few posts about it, but that seems to be a different experience than this. It seems more like the mystical pet - or allowing it to count for the competition, maybe - is what is bugged here?
Or does this happen to anyone else with other pets too?

Interesting with the mystical pets. My character ran the race with a normal pet - a cat - and that worked fine.

May I ask which platform you’re currently playing (Steam PC/Deck)?

Do you happen to have any recorded video or screenshots of the issue?
Also, can you share the backup file from the animal festival day?

You can access them under this file path: (make sure to unhide the AppData Folder first)
- Backup File: C:\Users\ <username>\AppData\Local\ProjectCoral\Saved\SaveGames\Backup
(you can share all the files there in a zipped folder)

Oh, hi! Didn't expect to get a dev response to this.
I play on Steam PC. I'll have a look at the path you gave me to see what I can find, but, uh, I've played quite a bit since that event.

@JVC Yeah I suspect it is just the mystical pet bit that bugged out, not really the race itself. Misty is a happy little bean, or turnip, but she's just there at the farm, never follows my character around or anything so maybe those type of pets just weren't intended for the race.

Wanted to drop back in and say that another year passed in my game, during which I got Luna the fox as a second pet. So when the pet contest came around again I thought I'd get the option to run with her, but no.

Same procedure as last year, the race started with my character alone on the field with the competitors, no pet in sight. Ran the entire race without a pet, again, although sometimes a "running dust cloud" appeared somewhere behind my character.
Finished first, race continued until the timer was out, ended up in last place again.
Interesting to note is that when I got the point score for the day I got points for attending the festival, points for winning the mechanical bull, points for winning the chicken thing, and points for winning the cow thing. No mention whatsoever of participating in the pet race.


So, it is not just the mystical pet after all.

I had exactly the same issue, mythical pets dont join the pet race, they never even appear and you spawn alone, of course and you cant win.
