Town Rank A Speedrun Thoughts
I'm generally not a sandbox game type of player. So in a game like this I need goals to keep playing. The end goal for me is Town Rank A. I've achieved it Fall 14, year 2. Mostly because of the Osmium Cactus requirement. Could have gained a few days using Flash fertilizer, but really I'd like to achieve Town Rank A in year 1.

The roadblock seems to be achieving rank B in year 1 of Fall so I could at least purchase the cactus seeds for the greenhouse. I haven't played on anything but 100% time speed so I feel like this should be achievable, but right now I get it in Winter due to finishing one altar of offerings(crops).

So I plan on:

50% time speed
Double items bug to double all fossil/coffer/geode stacks a few times
Infinite energy bug
No need to spend time for relationships/gifts

There is also a bug(I think it is a bug) that prevents Osmium sapling produce, so that doesn't need to be upgraded as much. All bugs being used will probably be patched at some point, but as long as they are in the game I intend on using the game as is and not as it should be.

Anyone have some other tips/thoughts or has already achieved a super fast rank A?

who cares about how fast you achieve it if you're going to use bugs and exploits

just downloading a mod that starts you off at rank a would have as much legitimacy

I care. You should look at the speed running community for all games. It's how a lot are done. There are folks interested in speed running almost everything, those are the folks I am talking to I guess.

yeah so if you're okay with exploiting to get it done then you should just get a mod that starts it off at town rank a you wont get a faster speed than that

Just use save scumming to get the items from chests and geodes you need. Takes longer maybe real time but faster in game calendar time.

Also, as far as speedrunning goes exploits are generally fine unless specifically banned. It's all about taking advantage of the skips and glitches. Rewriting the games code is not allowed, but exploiting the game as it is written is perfectly okay.

and who determines whether or not something is 'specifically banned'?

Chest duplication bug. Put something that sells for a ton of coins, watch it double up per day and then start selling half of the amount.

Speeding through the mines is essential for your fully upgraded tools. You don't have to upgrade everything, but for the collection bundles, you might want the upgraded sickle to clean up the ocean much faster, with the tri-loot enhancements.

Please do note that legitimate runs are more likely to appease both parties in the speedrunning community, so do look up which runs are currently standardised under the any % on the website. PS: I don't really care how you play the game, but make sure to do the research before you lose out on any effort. Future updates will add more stuff, potentially a new bundle system.

That depends on whether you are doing an "official" speedrun or just one for your own amusement. There are sites and communities that keep track of speedrun records, and if trying for any of those, they will usually list what is allowed and what isn't for your run to count when submitted. If you are just doing it for yourself, then it is whatever you decide for the limitations.

It's not a speedrun if you're just exploiting code errors. That's like buying animals in Stardew and deliberately naming them the item numbers for whatever items you're missing so they "accidentally" turn into the items you're missing. That's just cheating.

I just this moment got to rank A, fall 9 year 2 without using any of those exploits. You REALLY don't need them.

I do use 50% game speed. I might have gotten to it earlier but I didn't really focus on fishing and bug catching until fall year 1.

Cleaning the ocean will get you to rank C fast. Then I focused on easy stuff like fossils, gems, and artifacts. Knowing where each different item can spawn helps a lot. I did save scum though, I didn't want to go insane. That got me to rank B by the end of Fall so I was able to grab some cactus seeds.

I heard there was a bug though, if you finish any of the bundles last before the fourth one, the Lake Altar doesn't look completed. So even though I had the cactus for a long time, I worked on finishing the fishing and bug altar first. I got the giant sea bass and threw it in the fishing pond do double, and then used on to finish the second altar and then the cactus to finish the last one. All the bonuses you get from that threw me over to rank A. I still have one fish and one bug to complete the museum left.

Speedruns use exploits after a game has established that it's not getting patched anymore otherwise you have to *note every time with the version number you used. It's very likely the exploits you use to time this run will be patched out.

but there is no such thing as an 'official' speedrun because its just people in the speedrunning community making up arbitrary rules right?

Only visually. Each time you complete a bundle, the temple heals a little more, until the 4th one when it's all covered in flowers and vines. but there's a glitch right now if you finish bundle 1, 2, or 3 last, the image reverts to its not finished state. Not the end of the world if you don't care about the graphics. I just wanted it to be pretty so I held off on the last offering for the 4th bundle.

But as they are the group that is tracking it, it is their rules that decide if it is 'official'. It isn't like this is some government recognized record or something for the Guinness book. The point is that if you are trying to submit a speedrun for posting, then you are submitting it to a group or site (that you are choosing) and therefore are bound by their rules as to what counts as official by their standards.

yeah so if it is arbitrary then you can decide for yourself what the rules are and don't need validation from an unofficial 'official' speedrunning group with no more claim to the title than you or i
