Still can't talk to merfolk
I checked the patch notes for the newest update and the bug of being unable to talk to Merfolk was not in there....i was hoping it would have been fixed.

Define not being able to talk to them?
There's the select few from the story that will say a few things to you after but most of the guards and such will just give you a "I'm busy" and that's it.
Most of them aren't implemented much yet as it's not content we have gotten yet.

I can't talk to most of the merfolk characters with names, right clicking is doing nothing.

I have a similar issue. I can talk to the king and queen, but all the other merfolk don't even have an option to talk when you hover the cursor over.
I noticed that after I reached a certain milestone (One of the main Oracle quests) I could no longer talk to anyone but the king and queen (though more people should be willing to talk to me at that point). I think there is a lot of content that has yet to be created/implemented.

Yes!! I have the same problem!
The game sadly seems very buggy and with them not addressing the issues is troubling.
But not losing hope yet! I hope they fix everything soon!!

The devs marked this as 'not a bug' in discord. You can't talk to them because the entire merfolk storyline, romance, and friendship is still coming in an update. They only added as much as was needed to complete the ocean quest. Once that quest is done, there's no more contact written.

This has to be a joke....

Nope. Once you've finished the One of Us quest, there is no more merfolk content until the update comes out.

Yep I think it's just content that doesn't exist yet which is hella frustrating to me. I was waiting for the game to come out of early access only for a solid half of the games content to still not be done. And considering the whole underwater world is 70% of how this game differs from Stardew Valley it's quite annoying. I'm almost done the last of the main quests and I feel like nothings happened.

I am holding off on playing this one until its finished.

This sort of thread is what has put me off from buying the game. Well, that and the seemingly significant amount of bugs still kicking around. I've never been fond of a strategy of hope, and this is a strategy with which I would need to be engaged to overlook "content still to come."

A handful of years ago, there was Galak-Z. A game that released with a promised 5th chapter. Instead of a proper 5th chapter, they released an endless mode. No further development on the basis of failing to hit financial estimates and seeing that not as many players played to the end of chapter 4 as they had hoped.

Now, I'm not saying that what that studio did was somehow morally reprehensible: sometimes bad things happen, and not having the money to continue was out of their control. What I am saying, though, is that hoping that the story lines will be completed isn't a good option. Others have had those intentions before, and then were unable to fulfill that expectation.
