If you're desperate for one particular artefact, fossil or gem, there is a way to cheat the system. After you sleep overnight and the game is saved, go to the Blacksmith (or Lab) as soon as they open, with an empty backpack (except for the chests, geodes or fossils of course). If the blacksmith or lab doesn't uncover what you need, exit to the menu (without sleeping), restart the day and try again. Do chests, geodes and fossils on three different days.
Good luck
Honestly, this is starting to turn me off to this game. I am used to grinding. Most games have some sort of version of this. But this is getting ridiculous. One of the reasons I stopped playing Coral Island in early access was that the devs nerfed so many things as players discovered ways to make cash or achieve goals. When I picked it back up after the official release, I was lucky to have the funds from my earlier save to help out. I wanted to see if they had changed things enough for me to enjoy the game. Well, I was enjoying it, but damn.
I cleared over a thousand trash in the deepest underwater mine during one day without seeing a single shimmering coffer. I run these mines a lot, and have never seen one. I have run numerous levels of the earth mine and farmed the dig site every day in order to come up with enough fossil nodes and geodes to try to get the ONE gem, artifact, and fossil I am missing for the museum. I looked it up and the fossil node I need is the yellow one only found from rocks, not in the ocean. I took your advice and saved up the geodes, mysterious coffers and fossil nodes I need and began to save scum in order to get results. I don't usually do this. But after 10 trips to the blacksmith with 42 geodes I still don't have the gem I need. The chances are so low, it's just a matter of luck. Haven't even tried with the coffers or fossil nodes yet.
This has gone beyond grindy and into stupid. I'm doing fine in the game otherwise, aside from a variety of bugs and incomplete events. But I don't have time to continue working on my farm or my house until I get these items complete so I can turn my attention elsewhere. To say I'm frustrated is an understatement.
I'm sorry that the game isn't giving you the experience you hoped for. Every player takes something different from the games they play. I used to enjoy fighting games, battling monsters and enemies, but eventually they lost their appeal. Now I find myself playing mostly "cozy" games, so Coral Island is perfect for me, but I understand it's not for everyone.
To help you I ran a 3 hour test in the Dua Pulu mine, which is at 20m.
(In-game 3 hours).
I used an osmium scythe with 3 enchantments:
Rare Drop 160%
Extra Drop 20%
No Energy Drain 40%
Results:
Shimmering Coffer 23
Coffer 16
Mysterious Coffer 4
Water Node Fossil 8
Mysterious Node Fossil 6
When I needed a particular legendary artefact that only spawned in a Shimmering Chest, I farmed the Dua Pulu mine until I had 100. It really didn't take that long. I wanted the Flying Dragon Teapot that spawns with a 1.2% chance. Then I did a blacksmith run next morning. First visit was a fail, but after the restart I got 3 on my second visit to the blacksmith. RNG can be a cruel mistress, so I feel your pain. Going 10 times and getting nothing must be very frustrating.
Before you give up remember this:
The feeling of joy is strongest after the toughest battle...
Yep this is the way, once I got osmium scythe I easily finished my artifact collection, although I would use swift swing instead, it such a game changer. No energy drain is useless at this point, you should have 600+ energy at least.
If I do another playthrough. I'd probably not go that route, but consider buying (or cooking) Jamu instead of getting the enchantment. Keeping a stack of Jamu with you as you go about your day, makes stamina issues a breeze.
You're not in the right cave for them.
Ornate - se pulu 10m
Shimmering - dua pulu 20m
Marble - empat pulu 40m
Pirate - lima pulu 50m
You can go back and swap out enchantments, you're not stuck with energy drain. Just change it for something else.
100s of hours in Coral Island, and I never knew that... DOH
Oh for the love of....thank you! I knew I needed a shimmering coffer for the best chance at that damn teapot, which is what I'm missing. I also knew that shimmering only show up at depths of 20m or greater. So I've been running the Lima Pulu mine mostly as that also gives me the osmium kelp I need for fertilizers and such. I got so sick of pirate coffers that I switched to Empat Pulu, always figuring that shimmering would show up in any place 20m or greater. I don't go back to the bronze or silver areas that often, so no shimmering coffers. I will try this today. I've been trying to get this artifact with mysterious coffers, for which the chance is even lower.
I really appreciate your input. I also play a number of "cozy games" as well as action RPG's, sandbox RPG's, and sometimes 4x games. I am not unfamiliar with grinding, as I said earlier. Mostly I'm fine with it. It's just that these last few items have been eluding my best efforts and it's become very frustrating and more than a little boring. I also have an osmium scythe and pickaxe both enchanted at 160% rare drop, so I was confused why I wasn't getting what I needed.
Apparently, as noted in my reply to Piperbird, I was just in the wrong underwater mine. No wonder I just wasn't seeing any shimmering coffers. I also discovered that the Tyrannosaurus leg bone I need only shows up in yellow fossil nodes that aren't in the water. So all those fossils weren't doing me any good either. I have been running the Earth mine in search of my second red beryl, as well as yellow fossil nodes for the leg bone. So far, no luck. But I will keep trying. I am otherwise enjoying the game although I'm hoping they fix more things and give us the rest of the content in 2024.
By any chance, do you also play Planet Crafter? Your screen name looks familiar. :)
The 20m or greater thing is the possible drop just cleaning the trash in the ocean outside of the caves. But yeah, if you need a specific one, inside the caves are the best bet for farming.
Now I just need to find the damn red beryl (again) and the tyrannosaurus leg bone. Off to hit more rocks.
Oh when you're clearing trash in the underwater caves, do either of you use the Black Marlin ring? You can really move on the ocean floor with that and the osmium scythe.
Sorry, I don't play Planet Crafter, but my Deputy Dawg tag is the one I use across all platforms and forums. I'm a frequent contributor to discussions and enjoy giving advice to new players, so you've probably seen my tag somewhere along the line. Piperbird is the main source of info, here in Coral Island, and his advice is always spot on...
I don't use the Black Marlin ring, because I've completed the Merfolk story, and don't really need the benefit it gives any more.
Happy Hunting
Thanks! I have also completed the merfolk story, but I have not yet gone to get my tail. I have heard too many stories of players not being able to interact with the merfolk anymore or even forage the ocean floor after getting theirs. So I've been holding off until the devs fix any bugs involved. I take it you are having no issues?
I chose to have the two separate legs with multicoloured scales. I didn't choose the Merfolk "fish" tail. I've been using them for quite a while without any issues. I had to do some serious farming in the ocean to automate my farm, and so far it's been fine. I did hear that fast travel out of the ocean can cause issues with graphical corruption, so I always exit using the anchor.
