Upgrade my house to upgrade 3

I was thinking about upgrading my house to upgrade 3. I decided to look through the forums here and saw people talking about problems with it, some I don't even understand. My question to those more knowledgeable than me is should I hold off on doing this?

The only reason to upgrade to #3 is for marriage. If you don't plan on marrying, don't worry about upgrading for now.

If you do upgrade, you can only decorate the landing. The room upstairs will be decorated depending on the spouse you choose.

Well I have the materials to do the upgrade, but I am about 4k short on money. Maybe I will just keep working on my bank account.
