how rare is the great white shark?

Im on summer 7 and I've been fishing from the yacht from mid morning till 4pm since the beginning of summer and I haven't even encountered it once...
Also will I be ok with the gold rod if I ever get the chance to fight it?

A lot depends on how skilful you are at the fishing mini-game. I don't have quick reactions, so I waited until my rod was osmium quality and used large fish bait as well. Then I caught a couple, by casting my rod from the dock area where Zarah's boat is moored. I also caught one from the front decking of her boat. They only spawn 1st to 14th day of Spring, from 0600 to 1600, in sunny or windy weather. If you are determined to catch one, I suggest you may need to quit that day without sleeping and restart the day over again, until you succeed. Don't go past the 14th though, or you'll have to work though another year.

pretty sure he meant summer there, and yes you will be fine with a gold rod. Pretty sure I did mine with silver (and possibly the strong arms perk) as I didn't up my beach tools to gold till fall. I wish I had done the bug net earlier though as I could not get the blue morpho with the silver and now have to wait till year 2. :(

Dang I wish I had read your answer sooner I put my rod to upgrade on the 8th of summer :D getting it back on the 12th :s

hiya. i have a gold rod and that worked for me just fine. :) in my case, i caught it by fishing on the side of zarah's boat. it was around 8:30 - 9:00AM. hopefully this helps, good luck with fishing!

I caught two of them to clone at least an osmium quality one. With osmium fishing pole and cast length 6 as well as the large fish bait, which should give the highest probability (10 % legendary from the cast length and +25 % for large fish from the bait according to the wiki), the first took like 50 tries, the second around 20. So on average that's a 1/35 ~ 3 % chance at the best conditions. It is not representative though as I only caught those 2.
