Salmon quest for Jim

I got a letter/quest from JIm that I should bring him a salmon at the Shack between 5 - 8pm.. I caught one and gave it to him. His response was "bleech". So I caught another one and grilled it. I had to give it to him as a 'gift'. He took it, with faint thanks, but it still didn't finish the quest. I tried to smoke yet another salmon with wood on the grill but it wouldn't accept the salmon as a usable fish even though I put it in the refrigerator to be available.
Anyone have any comments or useful info about this?

Thank you, I'll try that. I actually went to Jim's twice. The first night he wasn't even there, so I went again the next evening but I have no idea what days of the week it was. I'll try again today when I play.

Oh, and by the way, according to what I read in the link you so kindly provided, I never saw the 3♥ heart cut-scene involving Jim, Theo & Lily.

I went to the beach shack on monday at 17:10 and got nothing. Left and went inside again at 18:00, still nothing.

This is Jim's level 5 heart event. For some reason, a lot of these letters go out before you have the level required to witness the event. Make sure you have 5 hearts with Jim and head to the beach shack.

That's right - it was similar for me.... take a look at Jim's House - that's where the heart events that might still be open come... (for me there were 2 still open) - then I was able to trigger the event in the Beach Shack

I was able to complete the quest after I learned that I was to go to his house first and the Beach Shack afterwards.

You're lucky the RNG gave you a fish that's fairly easy to catch. In my game he wanted a Legendary fish, that only spawns on rainy days. DUH...

You're lucky the RNG gave you a fish that's fairly easy to catch. In my game he wanted a Legendary fish, that only spawns on rainy days. DUH...

There's no RNG involved. It's quest is literally called a Salmon for Jim. You only need a salmon.

My bad... DUH Sorry for giving duff info. The quest I had difficulty with is Night Fish for Jim. The Arapaima is very hard to catch, only occurs in Fall and Winter, and then only spawns in bad weather. Tough call IMO

guys it doesnt say it but it has to be of purple quality. i tried with bronze and silver (skipped gold) and they didnt work but when i went in with purple it triggered.

I waited til I got Jim past 5 hearts and caught an Osmium-grade Salmon. Went in with a no-star and a silver-star (in that order) in my inventory first, to test it. Cutscene rolled and I lost the no-star. So it can be any quality, but he needs at least 5 hearts first. Maybe 6, it didn't proc when the menu showed him at 5 hearts but there might be invisible decimel points involved, who knows. OR the game acknowledges you catching an Osmium-grade Salmon but is fine with the first one in your inventory. Given similar quest bugs like this, I'm inclined to think it's the Hearts.

It does not, you can use any quality.

It has nothing to do with heart level (other than you needing enough hearts to trigger the quest in the first place). You only have to see his previous cut scene in order for this cut scene to trigger. There's no trick to it other than that.

Salmon worked for me today finally, needed 6 hearts and wait a couple of days after getting the quest, then entered the beach shack at 19:40 on a wednesday
