It is extremely harder to raise the Town Rank than it was before.
I am still only at Town Rank D and I have already donated over 1/3 of the Goddess Offerings, I have donated over 200 items to the Museum and I am past the Merfolk with cleaning up trash in the ocean. At this rate I don't even see how it would be possible to reach Town Rank S or even Town Rank A

Afaik you really can't reach Town Rank S right now.

definitely thought I would have gotten further than d with over 60 hours, lol. I don't see how casual players are supposed to get anywhere, but then again that's often the case with these games (don't love it)

If you can't reach Town Rank S then it isn't really a 1.0 release.

Anyway, I have spent around 90+ hours in this game at the moment (playing at normal speed). I'm at Rank B right now at Year 2 Spring and based on experience, you will get a lot of points basically by fully clearing the ocean (i.e. healing the coral tree), then the next one are the offerings (I got 15 offerings right now). I have around 250 donations to the Museum.

I'm definitely not representative of the overall playerbase, but I'm also at rank D for about 60 hours of gametime, then my rank progression sped up when I went from D to B. I could definitely see it slowing down going to rank A though, given how much of a mess fossil and geode RNG is and the other stuff I'm missing are season-exclusives and the advanced ranching products which really do take a while.

The game's not that much complete story-wise anyways so no need to rush.

There is as far as I can tell no time limit so no need to power-anything. Take your time and do what you enjoy, you'll get there eventually. The town ranks will come and likely snowball once you get started. Of course if you are like me you'll spend hours of RL time trying to find a sunflower Starfish for an offering in winter-only to realize later they only show up in spring :D

They do get places but slowly by their very nature. You can't want to be a casual player but also want to rush to the end. 60 hours in a game like this is nothing especially if you are taking your time and playing casually.

I'm not a casual player, nor did I claim to be.

Town Rank A is pretty much the completion of the main story and not intended to be quickly achieved. It comes from basically cleaning up the entire ocean, filling up the museum and doing all the offerings.

Unless you're playing super optimally it's going to take you a couple game years at the very least, especially when it comes to catching all the critters/insects/fish.

But ranking up definitely starts on the slower side of things and ramps up because finishing certain milestones is what gives a lot of points at once.

There's really no need to rush since a lot of the end game unlocks aren't even finished. The merfolk questline just comes to a screeching halt, the dig site and savannah offering rewards aren't implemented yet. Just take your time with the game.
