How to get osmium small animal items?

So, I've got my hay maxed out.
But I'm trying to get the small items (like regular egg vs the large egg) in osmium quality.
But now sure how to go about doing that.

I picked up new animals, figuring they'd drop the small stuff early on... however the best small items I've gotten is gold star quality.

Yeah, I've already maxed out the hay.
It's just that as their hearts go up, the animals seem to jump from gold star small items right into gold or osmium quality large items. I can't seem to get them to drop osmium quality small items.

Egg, wool, white truffle, peafowl feather... the they're all silver or gold. Meanwhile the large versions (or black truffle) I have osmium.

I mean, I know it doesn't really matter. As the larger ones are technically better.
But it's bugging the crap out of me looking at all these purple stars and the couple of things without them. lol

You pretty much have to set up a torture barn. They need to be in a bad mood to have the chance to drop small items, so no petting, no going outside. I leave mine in a barn/coop with an auto feeder and auto collector and just check in once a week to see if there are small products.

When you progress far enough in the game, there's a machine you can unlock that allows you to upgrade produce quality by one level at a time. So basic small milk can be put in to create bronze small milk. Then the bronze milk can be upgraded to silver and so on.

If you're still at the early stages of the game, then Piper's suggestion is the best way to go.
