Coral Island
This is basically single player stardew.
I just bought the game today, and so far it's identical to Stardew but with better graphics and different townies, it's even the same pattern, quests, and way things works, I feel like I'm playing Stardew all over again. I do love Stardew but I played it so much got sick of it. So I hope this branches away from it later on. But yeah the mines are identical with the elevators, they were closed at the beginning just like Stardew. Jojo mart, but a different name. The museum with donations, the shipping been, and way relationships work with gifting.

I feel like I am playing stardew but with all the qol additions I wanted and some I never knew I always wanted....lol. It follows a very similar formula, for sure, but that formula is fun and so far I am enjoying it immensely even though I literally just played through Stardew Valley again recently.

The familiarity makes the game very approachable and fun and I can skip a lot of the tutorial stuff because of the similarities.

Finally somebody else being honest and gets it. I didn't say it wasn't fun, I'm enjoying it, it's just extremely similar and like this guy said the same formula. I'm still playing and come on, the potluck festival you put an item in the pot, when the festival ends it's night and it sends you right at the front porch door of your house, the sack race was different and fun. But even when you are on the farm the music has the exact same notes and song as stardew when it plays music on the farm but this game changes it half way thru so it's not an exact copy. But to compare this to harvest moon, and animal crossing, i hated those games, the gameplay is completely different where the gameplay on this is exactly like stardew. I'm not bashing on the game, I like it just sharing my opinion on how it feels 95% exactly like stardew. I don't know why I keep getting called a troll, because some of you don't agree with me.
Most likely because you are the zillionth person to mention it and it is obvious and everyone knows it and has known it over the past year of early access and yet here you are enlightening everyone once again like its a revelation. There really isn't a lot of wiggle room on the formula if you want the progression to be good. Stardew Valley got it right so it would be foolish to mess with the formula drastically. I haven't enjoyed a Rune Factory game since Rune Factory 2 on the DS which I played to death. All of the subsequent games have felt off to me. A lot of the other farming life games seem hit and miss as well and it always comes back to how much they change the formula.

I don't agree about the music. So far I haven't heard anything that gave me ear worm like Stardew Valley's soundtrack. The music is okay in Coral Island but definitely not at the same level as Stardew Valley's, imo, and nothing I've heard even reminds me of any of the tunes in Stardew.

You mention dropping you at your doorstep after the festival but if they had made you walk home people probably would've complained that CI was a step back from SV in this regard. If it isn't broke then don't fix it and a lot of the mechanics that CI keeps seem to be ones that really are the only option for that situation without lowering the quality of life of playing.

For me, as I play, having played Stardew so recently, I just laugh everytime something is handled exactly the same way and when I experience something new or an improved mechanic my brain goes "oooooooooooh, that's nice!"

But that's what we're telling you - " come on, the potluck festival you put an item in the pot, when the festival ends it's night and it sends you right at the front porch door of your house" Literally how it worked in HM.

"But even when you are on the farm the music has the exact same notes and song as stardew" There is a song that plays at night in the forest that is almost exactly the same as the night time beach song from HM Animal Parade.

Literally everything someone points to as 'from' stardew, was from HM before that. That's what we're trying to say.
No harvest moon I've played is like that. Honestly I haven't seen anything about Stardew on the forums, if I came to them and saw my recent post and was considering buying and somebody posted this I'd buy it immediately cuz I love Stardew, and I haven't came across anything close to it not even Harvest moon which I hate. I bought it and took a chance I'd like it like Stardew, but I almost didn't cuz every farm game I've tried hasn't came close, and once again I'm not bashing, and saying stealing aspects of games to make them better or people will complain, just sharing my opinion I don't know why most of you have to get your panties in a bunch from it. If you've heard it over and over and OVER and sick of it, then don't click on posts that say "just like stardew..." It's that easy.
Plus I had no idea it was in early access, I just noticed it was released to buy a few days ago, it's new to me and people that haven't played it in early access, so like I said don't click on posts like this if you already know, and have heard it before a ZILLION times.
People can't help but press on their bruises....lol ;-)

It's different, harvest moon is still different than stardew, you apparently haven't played this game much when I say identical I mean it, I'm not trolling I'm being honest. It feels like I'm playing Stardew remastered. I've played all the farming games and none of them copied another farming game basically to the T like this one did.

I get what you're saying... well, actually what you are observing and have noticed the same thing myself.

Now, before anyone jumps in assuming that I'm one of those "CLONE!" people, I've played all of the early HM (Back to Nature was my entry into this genre) and I have full understanding that Stardew Valley is inspired by HM (and some others) and I know full well what that means.

... and Coral Island does have quite a few things that seem taken directly from Stardew Valley. I can't remember exactly what at the moment, just that I've noticed during my gameplay. There is a big difference between 'inspired by' and what I'm noticing here. Not that it's a big deal. I love this genre and the devs have worked hard to bring us a stellar game.

eta: BTN was my entry, and I went back and collected all of the other titles, as well as eagerly awaiting each new release. That is, until Natsume messed it up,

Geez. Finally finished reading the whole thread. Sorry, DocBrown, that you got jumped all over. *I* hadn't heard anyone talking about this before. Such intolerance is common here, unfortunately.

Yup all I'm trying to really say too, I love this game because it's so much like stardew with the feel. Stardew was my first farming game ever, loved it so much and basically beat it and played the crap outta it I went to find other farming games similar nothing came close. I tried playing the Harvest moon after Stardew hoping it would be like Stardew, it wasn't, the feel was off, it just didn't satisfy that STardewish like farming game I was craving this game does because it is extremely similar which is why I said I am hoping it branches off a bit almost like a Stardew expansion later on cuz that'd be cool.
Honestly I'm sick to death of kids calling everything even NEAR this genre a "Stardew Clone". Concerned Ape did indeed take Harvest Moon and improved on it and made it for PC because there was nothing on PC like it. Of course other devs will capitalize on that, change the story setting, add mechanics, etc. It's what people want.

Why is this an issue? So what if there are similarities. Don't make stupid posts calling out what we already know.

I'm sure eventually someone will make an animal crossing "clone" for PC because Nintedo isn't into sharing. Then all the kids will cry "clone" again. I mean there have already been Zelda-like games released over the years.

For it's time Harvest Moon/Story of Season was great, but coming back to them after so much advancements in other games, they are actually quite boring now. Stardew is still fun to go back to due to surprise updates and the huge modding community. Personally I wish he would stop and work on Haunted Chocolatier.

There's zero reason you can't enjoy both games. I personally love the new underwater adventure, setting and concept of this game. It's different enough for me that I don't feel like it's a full on "clone". But I'm older and see things differently.

yeah the scuba is different, haven't done that, and I said so far, I haven't gotten far into it, but i mean there's even a hot spring that is closed and opens up the same season stardew does. All i said was I literally feel like I'm playing a carbon copy of stardew right now and hope it branches away from it the more I play.
the game have automation mechanic and stardew don't have that right?

lol it's fine I really did too, and didn't really understand why by expressing my opinion about it, in no way was I bashing the game or discrediting it. I searched Stardew before I bought on these threads to see if it was similiar and I couldn't find any posts about it, so another reason why I shared my opinion after I bought it, if others are considering it too and looking for a stardewish game as well.

THIS post doesn't come off like you are "helping" anyone who wants a Stardew like game that you are clearly "sick of". A title more like "If you like Stardew, get this game" would have been less aggressive than what you put. You came off like you were hating on it then backtracked a WHOLE bunch. How you present yourself online is always tricky.

You did this to yourself. Intolerance isn't what you're experiencing. It's people sick of hearing the same crap in the negative way you originally posted. We are used to people using "Stardew Cone" as a negative, and not every cozy farm game is a "clone" in my opinion. It's a business decision because it's what people want more of, but in new settings and with new mechanics and new towns. Why do you think there is an ENTIRE mod for Stardew (expanded) that adds whole new people and places and pretty much changes the whole game? It's because people want more content of the same type of game.

Next time think before you just post. If you mean it positive, write it in a positive way.
Honestly this game could be called Stardew Valley 2 and no one would even know. It's almost identical apart from the visuals.

I mean I like it but it's almost a total gameplay clone.
For perspective, it has been postulated that there are only seven types of stories in the world and the thousands of tales written are just variations on the same themes.

So, a farming sim becomes immensely popular and further sims are going to be variations on that theme. The only difference is how much of the earlier game shows up in the latter.

I got Coral Island way back in EA. I noted in my review how there were many identical, not just similar, mechanics and story parts to Stardew (and its predecessors, likely). None of that reduced my enjoyment of the game.

As it has developed, the team has increased the variation off the theme and the game holds more of its own personality. Just what you would hope for on a "similar to" game.

My opinion is that Coral Island is a fun sim that could probably use a but more NPC interaction but holds up well compared to the many other farming sim games.
