One of the NPCs is a divorcee but the game makes no mention of it existing as a mechanic. I tried looking around but couldn't find anything.
The idea of divorce and child custody in games like these is a veritable a can of worms. Your children getting erased from history just because you divorced your partner is a bit problematic, but it makes sense from a technical standpoint because it prevents the MC from filling the game with their offspring, some of which would probably have nowhere to go.
You don't have to engage in divorce if you don't want to, but telling everyone they cannot divorce simply because it makes you uncomfortable is cringe.
pretty sure i saw the exact same topic on "My time at Sandrock" forums... why the obsession with divorce and child custody ? i've been divorced irl and had to battle for years for my child, i don't need that trash experience ever again. i don't understand how some people have fun with that.
Because this is a game and not real life? You can go ahead and not divorce in this game if you dont want to - thats the beauty of it. Let people play the game how they want.
Anyway as to OP's question:
I dont know if anyone has gotten far enough yet to check out that mechanic. I'm sure there are people who speed-run the game though and will be able to share the knowledge/details of how divorce mechanics do or do not work. I would try following the Discord rather than the Steam forums, i feel its alot more active.

I know some fans are pretty fast at keeping it up to date.
