Mail and Gifts
I've noticed that I haven't been getting as many letters with gifts from the towns people as I got before the update. Is that a change I overlooked or a bug of some sort?

Yes, I have noticed that too. One full in-game season without any single gift, I got many letters (most of then cooking recipes) but no gifts.

Update: Finally! I got a gift after more than an in-game month!

Update: I've played two and a half seasons since the Merfolk update so far and I've only received one gift per season, Fall: Vegan Taco from Emma, Winter: Bread from Sam, and Spring: Green Smoothie from Alice . I'm afraid they have changed how often you get gifts...

That's unfortunate! I've played an entire year and haven't gotten more than a gift per month either. I loved that you could get gifts with items you might not have gotten so easily otherwise. I got an apple for the apple pie in the lake temple offerings in the mail before apple trees were available. Now chances of getting the good stuff are much lower. But then, maybe that's why they changed it? I was getting gifts almost everyday so maybe they thought that was too much
