is it possible to see a tarantula more than once in the same night or is it pointless to keep looking after you missed it the first time around?

It is rare but possible. I ran around the spawn points for the black widow when I missed catching it and found it somewhere else, so it should be the same for any bug. considering some bugs are already rare and you wont see them some nights. Just be on the look out.

Do you have any tips on catching the tarantula? Every time I see it, it runs away at mach one,,,even when using crawling insect lure.

I haven't done one on this patch but doing a lunge and sweep worked on everything before they added lures

I have not tried catching one this patch either but my method for most is aligning myself close enough not to alert and then dash catch it. so like i am holding down whatever direction and while moving i hit the dash button and swing my net. mind you i already have my character running. its not perfect but it should help catch most of those kinds of bugs. I will try again this patch and see what happens.

Since the last update it has been impossible for me to capture a tarantula, I can see it almost every night in fall season but when they are within my reach nothing I do is useless, they disappear again

I have the same issue with Tarantula, even now. I have 10 catching, Osmium net, land insect scent on, and I wait for it to come directly towards me with no aggro. However, every time I do so, it notices me and reaches the point where it runs away before it is within my range. That is unlike every other bug (I have caught all the rest) which work very well with the patient method.

Any help/tips are greatly appreciated.

Yep, insect traps are the way to go for some of the rarer creatures. I've never caught some of the insects with the net. I've always had to use a trap for some of the crawling and/or flying insects.
