Hints for catching the hard fish like Giant stingray?

Okay so I have the best rod, and I think I had a stingray on the line and it just broke my line before I could even TRY to reel it in. Is there a trick to this?

so you have the purple rod from the shop? i guess level up to 8 fishing, use the best bait and use a fishing buff food?

Yeah I have the purple rod. And the skill that reduces tention in the line. I caught a few groupers, but the stingray eludes me.

have you tried using bait and cooking a food that gives you a fishing buff? i still have the basic rod as fishing is my least favourite part of the game so i havent tried to catch any of the hard fish yet, im saving that for year 2

I have found that tapping when it is going crazy helps. they go crazy for about 3 seconds. at second 3, release the tension and it will be calm for 1-2 seconds. you'll need to do this for a bit. but that has really helped me. I was able to get the great white, hammer head and giant sea bass using that method.
