Is Bait useless?

I have tried fishing with and without Bait. IMO there is no appreciable difference in your fishing ability between the two. It doesn't seem to have any influence on the quality of the fish you catch. There may be a small difference in the speed with which your hook is taken by the fish. However, with the improved idle time with the latest update, the fish are hooked quite quickly anyway.

Does anyone have a definitive analysis of the exact contribution that using Bait gives?

Right now Bait seems pretty useless in my opinion.

It doesn't increase quality or change catch time. The only thing bait does is attract fish of that size. So if you need to catch a catfish, you'd use medium bait, want to attract a great white shark, use large bait.
