Why would you want to force people who genuinely cannot always sit down for a solid chunk of time to experience the game in a worse format?
Yes, you *can* save early, but the game gives you this amount of time in a day for a reason. The game is, presumably, balanced around you being able to use as much of this time *as you want*. Sometimes I save early. Sometimes I want to do more things with my day, so I use it all. Sometimes, I want to do more things but life calls me elsewhere and I don't even have time to run all the way back to my house to save.
Option 1: I quit the game and lose all my progress for that day. With limited time to play, having to redo it is very frustrating.
Option 2: I leave the game running until I can pick it back up. Not always an option, especially if I have to come back to it another day.
Option 3: I run all the way back to my house and save, impacting whatever was calling me away in real life. Definitely not an option.
Option 4: With the ability to save anytime, I save, quit the game, and can happily resume from where I left off as if I were doing it all in one session.
How does option 4 hurt anyone?
(Sorry for a tiny bit of a necro. Just wanted to give my +1 but also address some of what I find to be very perplexing resistance to this feature request.)
My suggestion for a solution would be a "temporary save" system. I have seen this in other games (I believe FFTactics had it?) where you can save anywhere and it will create a secondary temp save file and make you exit the game. When you load that temp save it loads the game where you were, and then deletes the temp file. This prevents any save scumming by not allowing you to load that file more than once. So you can play a few minutes, save out, come back later and load in, then keep playing. Full save would occur at the end of the day as it is now.
I like that idea. It seems like the best of both worlds and would certainly fix all my problems.
With regard to save scumming, as you said, it's very much an individual problem, and the choice of some to save scum shouldn't result in the limitation of a useful feature for everyone else. If it came down to having the current system or being able to save anytime, and your suggestion wasn't possible somehow, I'd struggle to see why the current system would be preferable for that reason. But fingers crossed we get something like your suggestion :)
What in the world are you doing that you're getting stuck every other day? In 450 hours of playing, I've never gotten stuck so bad I had to use the button or restart the day. What is happening in your game where this is such a common issue for you?
Yea, I'm not one to question how someone is playing, but if you're getting stuck in-game every other day, something is going on. You should keep track of what you're doing when you get stuck and where, because the devs would like to know how you're able to get stuck so often.
That's just what I mean. This isn't a 'save at any time' issue, this is a 'something is wrong with your game' issue that needs to be reported because that is certainly not normal.
